  • Starting a New Simulator Build

New simulator build, looking for any general advise and whatnot. Yesterday, I called my wife while I was at the office and asked her if I could move my sim from the garage into the living room. She actually said yes, so I immediately hung up and instantly ordered the Par2Pro SQ screen to what my living room's dimensions are before she could change her mind (God bless her). My current setup is the net return pro, net return pro impact screen, and the terra-shield floor projector mount with the Optoma GT1080Darbee projector (amazing projector by the way, thanks for the recommendations). I also made the DIY gel under the mat with a piece of 5/8" plywood and the motorcycle gel (this forum is awesome!). I enjoyed that sim build, but my wife would like to park in the garage again, and we would both enjoy watching movies on the big screen. As stated earlier, this will be in my living room, so we would like to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. My living room dimensions are 14'4" W x 9' H x 21' L. I plan on making a 14' W x 8'6" H sim and hit around 7' from the screen, to allow for the couch to remain behind as a viewing area. I had a few questions for anyone who wants to take a stab at answering:

    1. Has anyone had luck with curtains? I'm looking at Chicago Canvas as a lot have recommended, but I am immediately overwhelmed by all of the choices. I am looking at running the curtains over the top and on the sides.
    2. My projector in the terra-shield has been great in the garage. To the other people using it, do you have much distortion when using image shift left or right with a large screen size?
    3. Any experience with methods used to secure 1" EMT to side walls/borders/ceilings?
    4. After reviewing my sketch, do you have any further recommendations? Does the EMT frame size work well with the screen size? Do you recommend bungees or zip-ties for tightness?

I have attached pictures of my old setup, sketch of the new setup, and pictures of the area for my new setup. My current sim platform is the R-Motion, but I plan on upgrading to either the Skytrak or GC2 within the next year. Any advice would be appreciated!

I used fittings from tarps.com to attach the emt to floor and wall. You can use footpads for this purpose. I use adjustable ball bungees with home depot EZ tarp clips so you can easily adjust tension of the screen.

Never noticed tarps.com! I was about to pull the trigger on a $200+ frame kit, but now I will definitely be going 100% through tarps.com. Also like the idea about the footpads and the bungees/tarp clips. Thanks!
