How far should ceiling net extend to handle flops and wedges?

Assuming I stand 10' from screen and have 9' ceiling, how far does the overhead net need to extend from the screen to protect the ceiling from flop shots and wedges?

I assume I need some kind of padding to back up that netting since almost flush with the ceiling, even if just a moving blanket.

I stand at about 9 feet and my net comes out 5 feet from the screen, but I likely only needed 3 feet.
