  • Screen / Projector Question

    Hi all,

I am wrapping up my sim build--but I need help with the screen, projector, and aspect ratio. My room is 16 ft wide and 20 ft long. The biggest screen I can get to fit is 10 feet wide by 9 feet high. I was hoping for a 12 foot by 9 foot screen... but it wont quite fit. I am looking at the linked supertex screen.

    (1) Is 10 ft by 9 ft okay? I have never used a projector--so I am not sure how this screen size would work better with a 4:3 or 16:9 projector. I will run Skytrak and TGC.
    (2) Is there a specific projector I should look at with this screen size? The projector calculator website will not allow me to enter 120 X 108. All along I have been looking at the BenQ TH671 ST -- will this work?

Thanks in advance. Ready to get this completed.

Hi WPStangs, I just joined the forum yesterday as I’m building a set up exactly as per your specs - just my room will be around 15’x12’. The enclosure/screen I’ve ordered form golfbays.co.uk is 10’x9’ same as yours.

Ill be hitting from around 9’ from the screen, which I think should be fine from what I’ve read on here. I too will be running SkyTrak and TGC and was wondering exactly the same as you.....4:3 or 16:9??

I’ll also use it as a cinema room though, so I wondered if a projector with 4:3 native, but able to do 16:9, would be the best option??

I’ll look forward to you getting replies from people who know what they’re doing 😄

      Cheshiredil,

How's the screen? I'm UK based too, and looking at options.

Sounds like we are in the same boat! Agreed.

I am on the finishing details of my build. I have a 671ST used projector central to calculate my screen distance.

It looks like you won't be able to fill the vertical space if you go 16x9. From what I read some guys have just pushed the image down so the bottom of the image aligns to the bottom of the screen leaving a lot of empty space at the top of the screen.
I think you'd be better off going 4 by 3 aspect ratio for golf and then watch movies at 16 by 9 letter box

That makes sense. Thank you very much. Wish I could fit a bigger screen... I don’t want any wasted space.

Why can’t you go the whole width of your room?

My room is a shed--so the ceiling is not flat. It is approximately 8 feet high at either end and then it comes to a point at around 11 feet tall in the center. I am worried that an 8 foot tall screen would be too short, especially for wedges.

I have a 14x8' screen, i need to install a baffle to prevent balls from rolling up the screen but I'm not hitting flop shots at the moment. And regular shots dont go that high.

There is a really good thread here about a guy with the same gable end room you have. He made a custom screen in the shape of a trapezoid that filled the entire wall.

Interesting—I’ll have to look for that thread. Thanks.

You don’t think 8 feet is too low? How far from the screen are you hitting? That might be a solution to my problem.

a4chet I am really liking the 14 X 8. Perfect 16:9 picture. I would hit from 7-9 feet with the projector mounted at 10 feet 7 inches.

I hit about 8 to 9 ft from my screen. My young kids hit plastic balls, and I hit the 'almost' golf practice balls.

I also hit some 56-degree wedge shots this morning with real golf balls and there was no problems
