  • Optimal length of side drapes/curtains? How much pooling on ground?

I’m getting ready to buy heavy black theater curtains with tracks and hardware on eBay.

The standard curtain length is 10’ but the seller will make them to a custom length if need be. The track and ball hangers add 1”, so the total length is 10’1”.

My ceiling height is 9’5”. I read somewhere that for golf enclosures you should have the curtains/drapes a little longer than the ceiling height so the fabric pools/puddles some on the floor so that balls don’t shoot between the curtains and the floor. My kids will be using my sim and they hit balls every which way.

I definitely want my curtains longer than 9’5”, but the question is how much longer than my ceiling height.

With the 10’ standard length curtains plus 1” track and hangers, I would have 8 inches of fabric pooling on the floor. That’s definitely too much.

So what’s the optimal amount of curtain fabric that I should have pooling on the floor to prevent balls from flying under but not so much fabric that it’s a pain to slide the curtains.

If I get the curtains made 9’7” long plus 1” of track and hangers, I would have 3” of fabric pooling? Too much? Not enough?

    Suggestions?

what about a bottom hem pocket that contains a weighted rope? Then you need very little excess.

I have between 3 to 4 inches at bottom. It's a heavy black duck canvas and the entire floor is turf so it stays in place. Hope that helps.
