  • new build in local high school

I'm going to be putting a hitting bay with Skytrak in our local high school gym's balcony soon. I'm looking for any and all advice/ideas, since at home, I'm in my garage with a net and this will be quite a bit different for me to put together. Please let me know what you'd do different/same if you could your build all over again.

The floor is tile and the wall is block.

Also, this is a small school budget build, so looking to save them money everywhere I can.

    My initial thoughts include:

    1. an impact screen on the wall (memory foam behind the impact screen?)

    2. some netting to the sides/top is going to be necessary, since these are high school golfers

    3. guess I'm going to have to go with a projector on a very long downrod from the ceiling (orrrrrr - after doing some googling, maybe I could just sit the projector on the floor to the side of the skytrak and it'll 'keystone' enough to square up the image? So, it'll be about 3 feet to the right of the screen's center - will it keystone that much?)

    4. apple tv to be able to airplay skytrak app to projector

    5. bonus points - a side putting area would be pretty sweet too (shallow cups, some undulation would be pretty cool too) (side note - our baseball program may be covering the entire balcony in turf anyways, so I might have to work with them on this part and make sure they don't get something down that stimps at like a 2 before I get my word in haha)

    6. my CCE mat is on concrete at home and I have never felt like that is too hard of a divot, so I'll probably go with a CCE mat on the tile floor.

Sell me on your ideas and thanks for any help you can afford.

1- You will need to do something else, screen needs to be off the wall, I just don't see how this will work even if it's backed by memory foam. You can create a cheap frame out of emt and connectors from tarps.com.
2-You can use Mesh tarp from harbor freight for sides and top. Very cheap and effective.

4-Just buy the adapter to connect the ipad to the projector. Cheaper than buying an apple tv.

6-I would build your own stance platform and buy just the small CCE strip to drop in. It will save probably 2/3 of the cost of the normal full size CCE mat. Could be a good project for the school woodshop if they have one.

      Thanks wbond .

1- I see others guys' posts about using 1 inch and it being nice and sturdy.

2- good thinking on the tarps from HF. Hopefully we won't have too many hosel rockets, but they are HS kids haha.

4- ya, the adapter would save a chunk of change

6- that's what I did in my garage. $50 for the CCE strip on Amazon makes it way cheaper to replace every couple years

      Thanks for the ideas.
