  • smallest width enclosure possible, offset ok

    Would 8 feet be minimum width? I was thinking 6 feet behind and then a foot or 2 in front for a GC2. Height won't be an issue but ideally taking up as little space as possible. Don't really care about offset or letting lefties play! Anyone have any experience with a limited enclosure size, it seems like people usually say 10x10 as smallest?

    Thanks

    I wrote this on a Facebook page I follow to a question about a room with 9' width and 14' depth available, so I will post it again here for your situation. For yours being 8' width then for my swing it would only allow a "comfortable" swing of 2' from your right wall (I read somewhere that from the back of a GC2 to the closest area that it will read a ball was 18 inches I can not confirm if that is accurate or not and thought it would have been close to 24 inches as I use the GC2 at my local PGA superstore):

    I recently went through this with deciding where to build my set up at. My safe measurements were 6 feet to the front (screen/net) and 5 1/2 feet clearance to the back and left side of the room (right handed) from where I am standing at. My "Comfortable" space was 6 1/2 feet to the front (screen/net) and 6 feet clearance to the back and left side.

    I think this really depends on the persons swing dynamics as the farthest distance the club is in your backswing is during P2 (60 inches from rear foot for me). Then take your stance and how far you release the club into P8 (66 inches from front foot for me), then impact at screen and distance of screen to wall.

    Screen to wall = 1 foot (Mine is 18 inches)
    P2 = 5 foot
    P8 = 5 1/2 foot
    Stance/Mat/Ball = 3 foot

    Total minimum safe from wall behind screen to full back swing extension = 14 1/2 foot depth

    Not to mention how much you will be offset in a 9 foot wide area, you will basically be hitting about 2 1/2 - 3 foot from the right wall (right handed).

    With all that said. I could not get comfortable in my 10x15 media room being that far offset from center of screen so I ended up starting my build in the garage area which is providing me a 12wX20dx9h and plenty of room to overcome the worry of hitting something.

      My UK single width garage is just a smidge over 8ft wide.. I cope with ok, but to use a gc2 in that narrow a space I have to move the gc2 into left handed mode and hit over the top of it for all driver and 3w shots, it takes a couple of seconds to do this but it works fine.
