  • Has anyone attached grommets to Carl’s Premium “raw” screen?

If so, how did it turn out? Is it ripping through at all?

i thought I could get by without the grommets but now it’s looking like I need to add one in each corner at the bottom. Not sure if it’s worth it or if I should look at other options.

Caleb can you try it and let me know. I haven't had the guts to try it. Hopefully someone chimes in.

After thinking about it, unless someone comes with a better solution or great answer to the grommet, I think doubling over the corner and attaching a tarp clip is the best idea.

I’m afraid to put a hole in the thing and then slowly watch it tear and become larger over time.

If you reinforce the fabric where the grommets are going by either hemming or stitching in a backing fabric it is unlikely to tear. If you simply poke a hole and then grommet it is very likely to tear, the fabric needs to be supported where the grommets are sited.

Look at any of the commercial grommeted screens that are available to buy online, they all are reinforced by hemming and or additional backing fabric.
I have 3 screens all grommeted and reinforced on all 4 sides and none of them show any signs of tearing or stretching.

Tension can be an issue if the tension is unevenly applied across the screen, if you put too much tension on one particular area such as a corner, then it is under greater stress than the rest of the screen and if you simply grommet the raw fabric it could stretch or tear.
