  • Netting Confusion

    Hey all,

I finally have all the components for my sim, except netting.

I am planning to have a 20x15 net, with a 12 foot hitting surface and 4 foot curtain wrap around on either edge (hung from angle iron)

problem I am having is figuring out which netting to buy. I will be driving directly into th net, with a tv to my side for viewing sim software (just don’t want to drop the money on an impact screen every few years).

Is the following good? Is there anything else west coast offers I should be looking at? I am planning to finish the edges with vinyl and grommets to aid in hanging.

Par 2 Pro has some good netting options. They are helpful when discussing if you have questions.

Get the direct from mill screen on here. Buy it longer than you need and then fold over the excess on one side. When it starts to wear, just unroll some of the excess and you have a new section to hit into. The durability is excellent, i've yet to need to use the excess due to wear in the impact area.

I did a bunch of research on this 3 years ago and settled on the Wittek "green archery baffle net" with tape and grommets across the top. I have it hanging a few inches from the wall with just 2 hooks, and anchored at the bottom with a couple of weights. Extremely minimal. Zero bounce-back and no wall impact. This is commercial-grade netting. Not cheap, but like anything else, YGWYPF. Check it out and report back!

BTW, thanks for validating again the idea of just watching the results on a screen to the side. Likely my plan for the Uneekor vs. an impact screen and projector.

Thought I’d follow up on this. Netting is working awesome, hard to get a good picture because my garage has 14 foot ceilings, but the ball falls straight down and I have about 10 feet wide with 4 foot wrap around on the left and 6 foot wrap around in the right. I will eventually add low profile sand bags along the bottom to weigh it down.

So which net did you end up getting?

I went with the Woven #420 in 1” size from west coast netting. I opted to go with a rope border since my dimensions were so large to keep the cost down. I put eye hooks into the studs in the ceiling and zip tied the rope border every 1-2 feet.

the net has about 1000 shots into it now and shows zero signs of wear, so I suspect it’ll last a while!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm just starting my build and evaluating the options. I'll check out that netting.

I looked up some local classifieds and picked up a couple trampoline nets for free. Harbor freight sells mesh tarp/nets cheap and is basically the same as what I used. It works well. I also ran rope around my screen border, but I ziptied it through my border and to the same piece of rope that I wrapped the whole way around (front/back) my frame and tightened it in the back with a ratchet strap. This setup looks amazingly clean and prevents any balls from shooting through the net and screen. I'm going to do a post my screen build once I finish my sim room. Sorry for late reply to this post, but I would search for their archery netting and try that (or those just looking now for netting). I would go with white as black will stat stains not your golf balls. The netting in the initial post is what I use on the sides. I have black archery netting, but it does not bother me as I hav one of Par 2 Pro’s screens.
