Custom DIY screen roller

Curious if anyone has made a screen roller, either manual or motorized, for their impact screens. These seem to be about a $1k premium on top of the screen material if bought from a reseller. I'm interested in using a 10-13' wide impact screen but would like the ability to roll it up when not in use.

I have thought about this many times. My screen is 14’ wide. I have a concern about the roller having a bow in the middle from the weight. I have a friend who has a machine shop and the idea is to cut open a round aluminum pipe and weld angle iron inside then weld the pipe back together. My other concern is getting the screen tight. I like a clean picture on my screen and it would mean hooking something on the sides every time i unroll it.
I have my screen on a wire cable that I can unhook the bungee cords (3 of them)on one side and slide it across like a curtain. I’m just not sure if I will change it or not. I keep revisiting this subject every once in a while.
Let me know if you decide to go that route. I would be interested to see how it turns out.

check out www.thesportscreen.com. a lot of folks have them and you just Velcro your impact screen to it. if you got to par2pro they have a video on how it works as they sell them as well.

I'm using a 16 ft sportscreen. It essentially is just three, 5 ft. 6 inch pieces of a retractable awning or pool cover real that are tapcon drilled together with insert pieces that fit inside to screw into. It just has a bracket system to be mounted to the ceiling. So price out either n see what's the best price. I found it wasnt worth the little savings and found a few locals selling their sportscreen for 150 bucks only.. you can also buy a manual and make it motorized with a tubular motor or hook and dril . The manual takes less than a minute to go up or down. Just use the search bar in the forum and you'll see plenty of threads stating this.

Does it sag at all in the middle?

Prob just a tad. I do have the black mesh sportscreen material, a 10x10 impact screen & a 16x9 impact screen all attached to it too though. It's not enough to bother anything. Look for pictures in 16x9 sportscreen garage setup in 'simulator builds' for my pictures
