  • Optimal Screen Size To Maximize Space Need Help

    Hi All,
Longtime follower and taking the plunge with my simulator dream.

My space is 11'2" width and 8' 1/2" ceiling height. 16:9 is sort of out of the question so I get the maximum visual field with a 4:3. And the limiter here seems to be the width.
If i were to fill up the 11' width on a 4:3 that would be 8' 1/4" height.
    A couple questions:
    1) If my drywall is Literally 11'2" side to side, what is the maximum screen width I can accommodate to be able to attach to the side walls. This would matter if I'm going to buy a custom sized screen. And would I attach with angle irons? For instance, would I need a few inches on each side so I would max out at like 10' 8". (sad face)
    2) If I just go with a 9' by 12' screen that Ive seen like the SQ, can i "wrap" the extra 1' of width somewhere and how would I pull this off? I'm less concerned about letting 6" drag on the ground. The issue I would assume is what to do with the extra material on the side and if this is prohibitive in terms of where to attach it on the sides.

Thanks in advance for any help. I used to think I had plenty of space until I got on this forum haha..

Excess side to side is good, if the impact area starts to wear, unroll the excess and you have a new impact area. It can be accomplished using tarp clips and ball bungees. Just fold over the excess on one side and then attach the tarp clip. This is what I do.

Sounds great wbond , I'm not sure I see how the tarp clips work, where do you buy those and do you have a photo? How frequently do you have to move the impact area? I'm at that step in my build, and considering buying a chunk of screen direct, so if I should buy even more than my 12' width to be able to have several moves of the impact area, I'm hoping I can extend the life of the screen considerably.

I have yet to need to move the impact area, I think a lot depends upon how tight the screen is kept, high ball speeds, hi spin wedges and keeping scuffed balls away. I use ez klip tarp clips and and it basically pinches the material and the bungees attach to a loop on the clip.

Thanks wbond sounds like extra material is not a bad thing then.
    Great!
