  • Bounce back over 10 feet with new enclosure

I just put together a 16:10 13x8.5 Carl's DIY enclosure with the premium screen. Super happy with how the image look and the quality of the build. Not so happy with the bounce back. I hit from about 10' away and most balls fly at least to me at chest/head level. I've had 2 balls hit my GC2 on the bounce back. Any suggestions? I hung an 2" spaced net I had behind the screen and that has helped a little, but I can see the net through the screen at times and don't want that. Does anyone make a rear blackout panel I can hang with grommet holes preinstalled, and then put like 2 heavy nets on the backside of that? If it went screen -> blackout panel -> net -> net I can't image I'd see the net through the screen or hand any bounceback?

Also - just looking for some cheap "turf" to put in front of the sim? Mine is on a hardwood floor and of course this doesn't help with the balls bouncing and flying all over the place. Anyone know what ForeSight is using for turn with their Sim-In-A-Box?

When I use the sims that my friends have had professionally installed in their homes there is 0 bounceback, ball falls straight down. That would really be ideal.

If you want something cheap for the floor you can buy some exercise mats from Amazon and then gets some thin outdoor turf carpet from Lowes. Total cost for 8 x 16 is a little over 200 dollars.

That is scary for sure!!! How tight do you have your screen? I have seen several posts with issues similar to yours and all were caused from the screen being too tight. Some had the bottom portion snug and created a trampoline effect.

I installed according to the instructions, which is ball bungees all the way around the screen, including the bottom

Thank you, any reason for the exercise mats and not just the carpet?

I think your screen is too tight.

This problem is always a trade off. If you have the screen really tight the image looks better simply because the screen is flatter but the balls bounce back a long way. You can help the problem by having a soft floor material between you and the screen but you have to figure out what you are willing to live with.

The first thing to try is loosening up the bottom of the screen. The only reason you have anything holding it down at all is to keep ground balls from going under it. You or your playing partners will hit a ground ball every now and then no matter what your skill level.

I dealt with the same thing and even now its not perfect. If you build it to match the Carl's spec the screen is just too tight. I had to loosen all of the side bungees, and several bungees on top and bottom near my impact location (center and just right of center).

Additionally I hung white blackout curtains, a couple of duvet covers, and then a 3" memory foam mattress topper behind the screen. This helped bounce back quite a bit but hanging memory foam is difficult at best (I had to get heavy duty photo clamps because trying to use string will rip the foam).

Finally I had to install baffling on top of my screen because I am also about 10 feet away and lob wedge swings hit too high and would bounce back at me and the GC2.

The exercise mats kept the ball from bouncing back up. The carpet is very thin and my sim is in my garage. The concrete causes the ball to bounce really well.

I'm going to send my blackout material back to Carl's. They are going to sew on a velco blackout panel for the entire back. That way there won't be any "halo" coming around the outside of the rear blackout panel if I went another route.

Lowes, HOme Depot, etc. sell cheap astroturf type stuff, then buy cheap carpet pad to put under it. Eats up most of the bounce. I stuck a 10' x 2' piece of leftover shag carpet along the bottom of the screen that helps stop the hop too.

I just installed a Carl's enclosure as well and worked on the trampoline effect yesterday. The instructions that Carl's has with the measurements that they have make the entire enclosure too tight all around and can cause a lot of bounce back. you can release some of the tension by loosening the bolt on the corners and let the enclosure "relax" on the frame. I cut and measured exactly what they had for instructions and found that it is set about 1/2" to 3/4" too long on all the bars. Relaxing the material on the enclosure, sides and back, it cut the trampoline effect in half. I have an exercise mat for the floor with a few old area rugs laying for my floor in front of the screen. The more padding on the floor, the better in the garage. Those concrete floors have some hops to them!
