Curtains or Tiles

Hi, I am planning my golf sim (which has accelerated due to all the golf course closures here) and am wondering about wall and ceiling coverings. I am leaning towards using acoustic pyramid 23.5” x 23.5” square tiles. Looking through many of the pictures, people seem to be using blackout curtains for this purpose. Opinions? Pros / Cons of either?

Jason, depending on your build, consider using carpet on the walls. I've found it to be great for sound hampering, lays flat and mostly seamless if done properly, and cheap. Disclaimer, my build is not fully finished but I have hit several shots and the sound is well hampered with about 60% of the surfaces being completed and covered with carpet.

Interesting. Curious though for a miss shot (will have guests in my sim) do you get much bounce off the carpet or does it tend to deaden the ball flight? I want to prevent ricochets....

If your screen is even reasonable sized, you will be surprised how you never even get close to hitting the sides. Ceiling is important though.

I ended up going with heavy velvet curtains from Ali Express. Took a while to arrive but ended up perfect.

How do you keep the curtains "Pleated" when installing on the ceiling?

@Uk101jkt -I'm also curious on how the curtains look on the ceiling. This was the vision I had for my build and I didn't quite get the "accordion" look as planned. Any chance you can send a picture along with a link to the curtain you went with?


@jasonreg- we have carpet tiles on one wall and then a curtain hangs free on the other. If your sim is framed in I would just carpet the side walls. Super easy, looks nice, cheap, and it takes quite the shank to hit a wall when you are 10' from the screen.
