  • Net Vs Screen

Going to start on a garage build soon and I'm debating which of the two options is better. I have two 48" 1080p TVs that are old enough so as to be expendable so I was planning on mounting one at the top corner of the room, to the right of the Sim as a second display or to have golf pirate streams playing during majors, and have the main display directly in front of me at address.

My only sim experience is with screens - do they provide any better impact absorption than the proper netting does? I'm just not sure it's worth the upcharge to me because the setup will be done in a way that I can pack it up and move it out of the way fairly quickly if we want to use the other garage bays.

Space dimensions are 20'w X 16'd X 12'h and I'm planning on using one 10' garage bay, but could go diagonal or crossways if it ends up making more sense to have a net or screen on a curtain channel instead of an enclosure or Netreturn.

    Thanks in advance.

LOL sounds like my garage, yes on the screen vs net, I have a friend who uses a tv and net and I built the screen enclosure and it is a world of difference to me. There is also a post on the forum that shows a neat trick to make a Carls enclosure foldable to only about a foot in depth. I'm in process of doing that to my system so I can get my garage back for next winter.

I would start with the set up without the screen. You can always upgrade at a later date and you will then have good netting that you can keep behind the screen to prolong its life and protect against the time when your screen wears out. If you go archery netting, I would suggest going with white as the black will get your golf balls dirty.

I should also note some people have projected an image onto their archery netting.

As a final comment, please note that moving to a projected screen is a big step up in experience that others have written about when they made the switch.

Moving to a projector is a matter of when, not if... I spent my first 2 years of sim golf with a net and don't get me wrong it was great. However a projector is just better across the board.
