  • HELP! - Outdoor Impact Screens & Projectors

Hi, I use a 3m x 3m x 3m cage/net + Skytrack outdoors (on a mat, not grass). I'm renting here so it's not a real long-term setup, so the quality is really not priority at all, so forget about all of the "proper" rules here haha. I'm happy to spend money if I need to but I'd really rather do it on the cheap ($300-$800?) if I can, especially as Im not really fussed on quality for this. I just want to be able to project my iPad or Laptop on to the impact screen to play simulator golf or see the Skytrak range/data in front of me. I'm aware that evening & night will obvisouly work much better which is fine, as I'm lucky enough to be able to hit even driver at 1am without waking anybody, but will just a cheap impact screen last a few months to a year outside? How about an 'outdoor' projector screen that is not specifaically designed for hitting balls into? Can I even hit balls into a normal projector screen (remember i have the proper netting behind it as well)?

Also any ideas or options for an outdoor/mobile projector setup? I'm right next to my house outside so power etc is all accessable.
Any thoughts or ideas is much appreciated.

I don't know if I would hit balls into a regular projector screen that is not designed for golf balls.

I bought a 10x10 impact screen for around $250 I believe. The net return screen is about $300.

As far as projectors go, you can find refurbished ones on eBay for quite cheap. I believe I paid around $200 for mine, and it's 1080p. I'm very happy with the quality of the image. So in other words, you don't have to break the bank.

I only use mine indoors so I can't speak too much on the quality of outdoor use. To block out the sun a little from your screen, use some black tarping or curtains over the top of your cage to black out the screen and keep the sun off of it as much as possible while playing. That will help brighten your image a little.

And then just figure out a way to protect everything from the elements.

Thanks for reply. I'm just unsure of the lasting of a normal impact screen in the outdoors. Where the impact screen will be will almost get zero direct sun also, but the black tarp idea is a good one, thanks.

Yeah I can't imagine rain would be too good for it. And taking it down and putting it back up each time you use it is out of the question. You might be able to just use some water proof tarping to cover it up when not in use. I know there are a few threads around here about outdoor setups you could research.

yeh thanks, I tried searching but didn't really come across anyone leaving their impact screen outside in weather. If i lasts for 6 months, even if colour goes off a little, i can live with that. Just hoping someone has testted it before.

Won’t be perfect, but others have projected an image on white archery netting. Perhaps you could back it up with some white material?

i believe there should be some posts on this and suspect you could research its use outdoors more so than the screens we use for indoor sims.
