  • Cleaning an Impact Screen

I have a Carl's Preferred screen and was wondering if there's anyway to clean ball marks off of it? It's not mounted right now because the simulator room is going through a remodel.

That’s a good question. Been wondering about alternative ideas.
My first screen was from West Coast netting (pr-100) and they just recommend that I just put it in the washing machine. I did that once and it came out very clean. I don’t have that screen anymore. I have a (direct from the Mill screen) now and have considered trying the same thing, but this screen is bigger and not sure if it will fit in the washing machine. I actually don’t think it will unfortunately.

I have considered taking it to the laundy mat, but was afraid that would ruin it and I'd be without a screen. I think I'm going direct from the mill next.

I have a small section that was cut from my direct from the mill screen. I will stick it in the washer and see what it does.

I have a poly foam spacer screen from Spectrum Golf and I believe it is the same as the Direct From Mill screen. I e-mailed Spectrum and they said to use Shout stain cleaner with warm water. I've tried it a couple of times and it works well. The only issue is that it is a spot-clean solution. Wondering if there is a way to clean the whole screen so I'm interested in your experiment pwade3

This is what I got from West Coast Netting, but the material of their screens was different then the direct from the mill.

If I need to clean the screen, what do I use/not use? – I recommend trying first with unscented baby wipes and a bleach pen as it seems to work well for the small spot cleaning. For cleaning the entire screen I suggest taking it down from the apparatus and putting it inside a washing machine using a very mild detergent (like Dreft).

Ok, so I took the piece of “direct from the mill” that I had and tried to get it dirty. I walked on it and dragged it around but its impossible to duplicate ball marks on it. I stuck it in the washing machine on delicate with some laundry soap and the cycle was for 40 minutes. I removed it from the washer and it physically looked no different then when it went in. It did look cleaner. Put it in the dryer for a short period just to see if there was any effect and could see none. I took a before and after but it’s unlikely the pictures will show much of a difference. I just wish I could fit my 167x102 screen in the washer. I might take (when covid-19 is over) to the dry cleaner and have them test on that piece I have before taking my screen in.
