    New Build -- Screen Tension

    All --

Hanging a screen and I feel like I'm having trouble dialing in how tight it should be. I have 12 inches from screen to wall. Should I be able to push the screen to the wall with my hand (after a bit of effort)? If I have it that taught, just throwing some balls against the screen I'm concerned about bounceback. Just trying to get a sense of how far I should be able to push it with my hand as a judge of how tight to set the bungees.

    Appreciate any thoughts here!

Depends on your screen, how you're attaching it to the support frame, and how far your hitting point is.
I have the Par2Pro SQ screen, it's attached to the frame and sits about 14" from the wall. If I push it with some effort, it can touch the wall but I've never had a golf ball get near the wall; I'd say the ball might push the screen 6" with a driver shot. The screen is attached to the top and sides using tarp clips and bungiee cords so there are some additional give for impact. I've stretched the screen enough just to get any folds/wrinkles out.
Never had any issues with dangerous bounce back; from driver to wedges, the balls would bounce back around 2-3 feet and stop rolling before it got back to my hitting area. The screen is 10 feet from the point of contact.

It takes some trial and error. Hit some little pitch shots and see what kind of bounceback you get. Gradually dial up the swing speed and experiment with hitting different parts of the screen (the lower section for driver and then higher up the screen for more lofted clubs). I don't think there's a magic formula. As frackh noted, there's a lot of variables at play like the type of screen and your hanging method.

My screen is 10" from the wall. I have it stretched just enough to get the wrinkles out like the others have said with no issues.

Great -- thanks guys. I was waaaaaay overestimating the tension needed. I also have the SQ screen from P2P and have loosened it up as suggested...just enough to get the wrinkles out!
