  • Is steel cable good for hanging in 14’ room?

I’m considering hanging the screen using steel wire instead of a full on EMT enclosure as it would be easier to retract, take up/down, etc. The width from wall to wall is about 14 ft. I’ve seen a few builds that hang, but I don’t know what type of wire they’re using, and they seem to be a shorter length.

Currently looking at Carl’s Preferred raw screen at 12’ x 7.5’ (16:10) and hanging it with something like this:

Would strong wire and some turnbuckles hold up well enough at that length or would there be too much sagging in the center?

Mines hung with steel cable. Works really well. Can slide the screen out of the way if you so decide. You need turn buckles and need something strong to handle the eye hooks. I have two lamented beams so it worked well for me. The picture with the curtain slide out of the way is actually an old one. I have made changes since then and I leave the screen in place all the time now, but I can slide it if I need too.

That looks great! Thanks for sharing! I kind of assumed the eye hooks would go into studs behind the walls. Is thinking studs would hold them a bad assumption?

If the hooks are up high close to the floor joists or plates they would be fine.

I have 3 screens on 1 steel cable, and it doesn’t sag.

Dang, 3? Do you happen to know what gauge your wire is?
Working...
