  • Bounce back from screen

Working on a DIY set-up. I have a few quck questions:
    1) How much bounce is too much?
    2) what are a few suggestions to reduce bounce without impacting life of screen?

    thx

I have about 2 feet tops of bounce back.

I have the screen not too tight, a memory foam pad behind the screen, as well as moving blankets. It deadens the ball and helps muffle sound. It also should help extend the life of the screen.

The thing that I found to be most concerning was bounce back from any worm burner that hits the EMT, or a pitch shot that hits the top cross bar. I added foam insulation around all of the piping, as well as a door heat stopper to help deaden the ball. I'm sure that there is a more aesthetic solution, but that's worked for me. I had one worm burner come back at me at 100+ mph. I don't want that happening again...

I've seen someone use foam wedges wrapped in putting turf. That looks pretty nice and would appear to do the trick, too.

If bounce back is too much, then you need to not have your screen too tight. My bounce back is a couple of feet at most. I back my screen with archery net.

there is a lot written on this forum on the issue from a number of years ago.

Hi There. Thanks to both of you for responding. I have used the tarp clips and bungee cords on the sides about 4 per side for 8' high. They are not pulled/wound tight; 6" bungee cords on 3" of gap between screen and EMT using Gung Ho DIY build. I have used the tarp clips on top and bottom - but i'm not sure if these are too tight. I also put a 22mm golf impact netting surrounding the entire set-up.

The screen has give and the netting has give. The ball does indeed drop a couple of feet in front of the screen but the momentum continues to have it bounce past me and i'm hitting from 8' - 10' away. Is this normal or should it "drop and stop"?

If this sounds like too much bounce, would the first suggestion be to loosen the tarp clips OR should I put a moving blanket hanging down the back to help deaden things?

          Much appreciated.

Maybe you need something on the floor to deaden the bounce there too

I would try not to attach the bottom; only the bottom corners. Lower shots like drives and long irons are the ones needing more give, so it makes sense to loosen the bottom of the screen.

What is your floor like? Synthetic turf usually doesn't bounce much. Wedges tend to roll back to me because of the spin, but drives pretty much drop dead 1-2 feet from the screen.
I used Par2pro's "high impact mesh" behind the screen but cheaper solutions like archery netting and moving blankets also work.
