  • Retractable screen and/or projector mount on an angled ceiling

I ordered the stealth screen from par2pro and am planning to install it on my ceiling, which is angled. I’m planning to do the same with the projector.

I was told for the screen to attach plywood to two studs and attach the mounting brackets to that. I just finished the garage for this, and would love to avoid the eyesore of random plywood on the ceiling. Was wondering if drywall anchors or other approaches would work that look better.

same question on the projector. I have the cathedral adapter, extension pipe and fine adjustment mount from peerless av, and the projector weighs 22 pounds. If I can’t mount to a stud, would drywall anchors or something else work there?

I am no expert, but at 22 lbs, I am not sure I would feel comfort leaving things to the drywall and not a stud. Mostanchors set their weighting from a wall mount perspective and thus from a ceiling would be less effective. If it were me, I would get some type of wood panel that I could screw into studs and then mount my projector to that.

I mounted my sportscreen into the ceiling rafters. Lucky or not I am not sure but for 16 feet it lined up perfect for the spacing of my rafters for where I was wanting it to go. I predrilled tiny holes to make sure I was hitting the rafters, once that was established I was able to use the sportscreen mount direct to ceiling into the rafters and installed the roller in no time all by myself. I did need to get my son out to help me attach the sportscreen mesh screen to the Velcro on the roller .. I would guess it depends on how par2pro has modified the sportscreen for you if any. I would not put ANY drywall anchors onto a ceiling if it is holding ANY weight at all .. side screens maybe .. more than 5 pounds .. not a chance.. put the plywood or wood substance than can span 2 rafters and paint it the same color as your ceiling. Drywall anchors into a ceiling are not able to support weight .. just dont!!

Now I feel like I need to paint the wood supports on my garage ceiling.

I spanned 3 joists on each of the front two corners with lumber cut to 34"x12"x2". That allowed for one shared mounting plate for the front and side sportscreens to mount. Each side sportscreen had an additional board cut to 18"x12"x2" to span the near mounting point.

The sportscreen gets hit over, and over again. I wanted to spread the load over the drywall and into the joists. The brackets are quite a small contact patch.

They make projector ceiling mounts that surface mount on the drywall and span between joists. I use one, and you can adjust the down rod's position across the frame. That cathedral ceiling adaptor that you have will absolutely work if you screw it into the joist, but get a projector with horizontal offset. It sounds like you need a cathedral ceiling projector mount that will span joists.

Or, get a saw out and secure your project. Sand, and paint to match the ceiling or bracket. You may need to mount a proper 40lb+ projector up there someday.

I mounted my retractable screen to an angled ceiling without issue. See upper right support

You properly mounted directly to wood. The angled ceiling shouldn't cause any issue at all for intentionally .

Unless I misread, the OP wanted to use drywall anchors for both the projector and sportscreen.
