  • Ceiling height

As fortune would have it my wife seems to be ok with me moving my sim to another part of the house and out of the garage. We have a one bedroom unit above our detached garage that is now available and after much thought I think that I can make this work, which will be nice as the garage is just too dusty. Also, the space has a full kitchen and bathroom and so could fit a group of people more comfortably. My only issue is ceiling height and while I believe I have read others having no issues with 9 foot ceilings I did want to ask for input to see what your experience might be. The other nice thing about the space is that it is flat, where the garage had a drain that everything sloped towards and the new space gives me about 6 more inches of ball flight for the TM to read.

My suggestion is make up something out of Cardboard and hang it in your garage. You'll find out pretty quick if you can swing in there. Also, are you 5'5" or 6'5" or in between. I'm 6'1" and have hit drivers no problem in a 9 foot ceiling. If it's not enough, it's easy to modify the rafters to get another 6". You only need it above the swinging area.

I think Protee recommends 9'6" minimum.

I'm 6ft and occasionally brush the 9ft 6in ceiling in my garage with a driver. Of course my platform reduces that height about 3 inches.

Good point about raising the rafters if needed! I'm 5'11" and while I think I will have enough room, I ought it would be good to check. I will also see if I can rig something up in the garage first.

        Thank you!

          Dax,
How did the 9' ceiling work out? I'm building my second simulator at my cabin and I have 9' to work with.
          Thanks

It is very very tight, I actually have one or two inches more than 9 feet. I'm 5'11" and while I have yet to hit the ceiling I know I am coming close. I would say that this works for me and I am much more happy with the set-up now than what I had in the garage. It's just much more comfortable hitting balls and way less dusty.
