Using Tarp Clips

I have a raw material screen, and using tarp clips to attach to a frame... do you all attach the teeth of the clips to the raw edge directly, or do you fold the edge about an inch or two first and attach the clip to a folded edge?

I do both since the screen is wider than I need.
