  • Screen mounting

Is it possible or has anyone done this and has pictures. Trying to maximize my viewing width. My thought is to build my enclosure frame 1'-2' deep and mount the screen to the front of the enclosure instead of the back of it. Use tube clips to mount it to the top of the frame and then wrap the sides around the tube on the outside and then use tarp clips and bungees to secure it to the side tubes in the back of the frame, and just let the bottom excess hang. Picture of frame enclosure idea im thinking of using from gunghogolf website.

I didn’t follow how that gets you more width. Why not just buy 1” EMT locally and canopy fittings to make your own in size you need?

My opening in my garage is 119.5" my idea by wrapping the screen around the front of my frame and tarp clipping it to the back is I won't lose the width from the ball bungees and the tarp clips.

I did see one photo recently of someone who did this. Can't think of which thread it may have been in. You can add a couple inches to the edges this way but the tradeoff is that you will lose the "enclosure" element and will have to come up with something else for side and ceiling protection. I'm also not sure about the bounce back since the sides of the screen wouldn't have any flex to them.

Are you working in a really narrow space or something? Building a frame is super easy and inexpensive so you can always just build one to the size you need for your screen size.

Here is a picture of my garage and the inset is where I'm going to mount my screen. 7' deep 119.5" wide and almost 9.5' tall

That's a cool little space for a sim. Have you considered flipping it around the other way? Hit from inside that little space and put the screen outside of it? Then you could go much bigger with the screen.

I have. Also thought about going lengthwise since it's a 3 car garage but there is a beam that runs across the roofline. Still need to park the wife's car inside as well. I would love to go wider but using the inset I can still have full use of my garage.

You may be able to ditch the frame entirely and just hang the screen right from the ceiling towards the back of the inset. You can screw some hooks into the side walls to run some bungees through with tarp clips. You could probably get away with sacrificing only a couple inches of screen space on each side. If you got 115 inches out of the screen that's pretty solid. Plus you would save money on not needing an enclosure.

That was my original thought. Run angle or unistrut right to the wall or run j hooks in the ceiling to hang tarp clips the. Eye hooks on the sides foe the bungees to go frameless. As mentioned earlier I want to maximize my width. I've seen some screens at max width with the hook style bungees running north and south instead of east west.

The pic you posted is actually what mine pretty much looks like (apart one minor difference at the top middle where my front tube is connected with a fitting to my back fitting). My screen is mounted to the front pipe via bungees and then I protect the pipe on the sides from errant shots by having drapes that connect to my screen via Velcro.

I can take some pics and post them here in the am if that helps? This way I can get behind the screen with some daylight with pics as well.

Kevin_82 here are some pics. Not sure if they are helpful but let me know if you have questions. I am still waiting for my wife to have time to stitch the final Velcro strip on the left side and so too a ox of what the screen looks like on that side. I also took a pick of how my frame differs from what is in the diagram on the first post. Hope this helps.
