Impact Screen Substitute

Hey guys, because my set up may not be able to stay in the current location, I am looking for a cheaper option to hit balls into than the traditional impact screen. At first, I used a heavy duty painters drop cloth, which was pretty decent, and lasted all winter before holes started to form. I am thinking about just getting another drop cloth to replace the current one, but before I do that I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas that you have used if you weren't using an impact screen.

i used a white sheet in front of archery netting before I put up an impact screen, now the archery netting is behind the impact screen.

I should mention I dont have a projector, so the image is not an issue.

Wow... This looks like it has potential... it's $7 in Canada at the moment. Is the image decent? How long does it last? I'm thinking about putting it in front of my archery screen... that image is decent but not great. The 10 foot one is only $30 as well. Thanks for recommending it!

I guess my assumption is that even the better nets are not very durable from what I have read on this forum. Maybe there is a good net out there?

The net return pro seems very popular. A lot of people use it. I believe it's a bit pricey though. Netting is pretty cheap. If got a few of them and draped them over each other you'd be fine. Think about the nets in batting cages. Thick, high-quality stuff.

Yeah, I wonder if anyone has tried it to know how it hold up. My 12 oz painters drop cloth lasts for a few months and cost $30. Ball basically falls straight down when it hits it.

Personally. I'm very undecided right now to go with Sawdust tarp or try the billboard banner ...
We're playing with almost golf balls .. I take old classrooms screens for now (tape them together), but running out of old ones ..
and they always gets ripped, but the image is great ...

I’ve been using billboard tarp for close to 3 years. I had my wife sew loops on the top and bottom of the tarp. I used 10’ chain link fence top poles through those loops, hanging the top pole to the ceiling with eyelets and chain. You need to let the bottom pole slightly touch the floor so you don’t get much bounce back. If you let it hang off the floor you’ll get enough bounce back that you could get hit. I’ve only used Qolf balls on mine so far. Picture quality is pretty good, but not quite as good as some impact screens I’ve seen. I bought my 10’x10’ piece from the company you listed above, white on both sides so I could flip it around if needed.

I would be interested in how much wear and tear there is to your tarp with so many hits over 3 years! This product suggests tear-resistance quality but I’m sure that’s not covering high-speed golf balls repeatedly hitting it! 😂

Sorry, I have no experience with that product. At 12mil one would think it would do the trick. My hitting screen has virtually no damage using Qolf balls, but does have a small, slightly dirty area where the balls have hit thousands of times. Good luck with your build, and Merry Christmas!

What are Qolf balls, you wrote it twice ?? Foam balls ??

Qolf balls are hard plastic golf balls that weigh half as much as real golf balls. I bought 5 dozen off Amazon if memory serves me right. They’ve been pretty accurate on my Skytrak. They may be hard to find now.

I received it ... The shipping costed more then the tarp .. So if you live in the USA. it's even more of a bargain ..
Installed it on a steel wire for now ..The wrinkles are slowly disappearing .. I set it up on the non shinny side ...
With the old projector the image is as good as the old classroom screens ... But will try it with newer projector soon ..
Using only Almost golf balls for now ... Don't know yet about real golf balls (will try it eventually) the worse that can happen, will be a hole to patch up ))

But for side enclosures they even have black ones ...

So will post pictures within a couple of weeks ...

What is the durability of this type of screen? How many shots before you start wearing holes? Not being an impact screen I would think you would puncture through it pretty quickly even with a net behind it. I have a net on a cable in my garage so very interested to hear how this screen holds up bc this would be a great option for me.

EDIT: Also are you using real golf balls?

My new billboard tarp screen arrives tomorrow. I ordered a 13’ wide by 8.5’ tall one this time and had them put grommets in it every 12” all the way around. White on both sides, 20 oz. They fold over the edges and stitch them before installing the grommets. It costs $149 shipped through Billboard Tarps. I’m gonna mount this one with bungee cords to see if I can get both a smoother picture and less bounce back. The 10’x10’ I have now was working fine, I just wanted a bigger screen for movies and sporting events. Picture will come out to roughly 171” when completed.

It came in late. Still in the process of getting it hung. I’ll post pics soon. If it’s like the last one, it’ll be good to go for years.
