Sewing memory mattress topper with cover into a peg board

I have read many posts about how to keep a memory mattress upright behind the screen. An idea came to my mind.

Are you familiar the with peg board with holes? I think they are perfect for using a 6" needle and just thread it back to front and back until it is fully supported. The fabric cover provides strength and keeps the memory foam in place. With these holes, you can hang the peg board along with the mattress vertically behind the screen.

I see a bunch of used queen and king size memory foam topper for $20 to $40 on craigslist.

I will share my result when I do it next month. I am still upgrading my garage.

I spent an hour reenforcing the peg board with 1.5" x 1.5" wood and sewed the 3" mattress to the pegboard with a 6" needle. The balls bounced right back to me when the mattress is behind the screen. The 3" memory foam mattress is simply too thin and the balls compressed it and made impact with the pegboard. It was a disaster. The screen works better without the mattress but the large indentation (that slowly disappear) after every shot on the Supertex screen concerns me. I will try moving blanket next.

I wonder if a 6" memory foam mattress with high density works better? However, this is a very good way to keep a memory foam mattress vertically. Basically a small portion of the mattress is supported by the thread.

Have you tried leaving a 2-4" space between mattress and screen. That should stop it from get to the peg board. I am in process of making a top and bottom border with memory foam with 1/4' board backing for support and wrapped in cloth to make it look good and hopefully protect top and bottom pipes and reduce bounce back. I already shattered the bottom PVC pipe when hit bottom of screen before adding border. Hoping this weekend to test and I pray it works. Trial and error.

Yes, I tried hanging it 3 inches away from the screen but the problem is that at that distance the screen abords too much impact from the balls and had large indentations that eventually go away but long term I think it will tear.

I ended up hanging a 5'x8' area rug directly behind the screen. I screwed (use washers) the top of the area rug to a 5' long 1.5x1.5 wood beam and then used 2 straps to hang it. It worked very well. Stores display area rugs by hanging and I think it will be very durable. It reduces the screen indentations after impact greatly. Area rugs can be purchased used on Craigslist for $20 to $30. Find the ones that are clean/new and more plush and 5x8 or 5x7 in size.
