  • screen and projector questions - budget build

I've built a 10'w x 8'h setup using 10'x10' archery netting attached to EMT conduit. I have 2 main questions for you experts!
    • I am struggling with the proper projector & placement in my garage. I currently have a cheapo projector that someone gave me 7' back from the screen and 8' high. But the image is tiny.
I also tried to mount it about 15' back from the screen on my back wall, I put it about 10' up but my body casts a huge shadow over the image. Is this fixable by going higher up you think? Or should I try to place the projector on the ground in front of my angled up? Other thoughts?
    • Any thoughts on what to do with the extra 2' of vertical netting? I have it wrapped under the bottom segment of EMT and then trying to pull it up using bungees, but (as you can see in my images) that isn't working well.
Unfortunately the bottom segment of EMT doesn't have hooks, otherwise I'd probably trim it down and put in eyelets at the bottom to be able to pull it taut. I am thinking of trimming it down to just under 8', adding eyelets, and then wrapping bungees around the bottom piece of EMT.

Your screen is 153” diagonal. Sounds like you have a long throw projector, which may need to be 10-15 feet from the screen. Typically 10-11 feet are good for 100” diagonal screen, 15-16 feet for 150” diagonal screen, etc. What brand and model number projector do you have?

Thanks for the reply and details, when I move the projector back to about 15' from the screen it does fill the screen pretty well, but my body casts a shadow through most of the image - I guess try to mount it higher?

How far away are you hitting? You may be able to move it higher and do some keystone adjustments.

Unfortunately I don't have much space, so I am hitting 6' from the screen. I can play around and go higher on the back wall (~15' from screen)

Just curious, since I am new to this, there are models of projectors that I could put in front of me that would fill the screen? It would be only about 4-ish feet back, is that too close?

Because your so close to the screen you're going to have hard time finding a mid-long throw that works without casting a shadow. You'll have to go short or ultrashort throw. I'm not sure you'll find something at 4 feet back, but definitely 5-6 feet back you can find projectors that'll work and won't cause shadows.

Use www.projectorcentral.com to help you find one that will work.

I think this query is close to what you want (can't search for 1:1). vhttps://www.projectorcentral.com/projectors.cfm?g=1&hide=0&st=1&exp1=1&r=&br=&c=&w= &db=&ar=4%3A3&zr=&wt=&ltg=&ll=&wr=&dt=&mfg=&p=&t=& pjl=0&pjw=0&pjh=0&exp4=1&td=6&is=153&i=d&tr=&tr2=& exp5=1&oop=2&sort=%24&sz=15#list
