  • Can I fold a screen back on itself 180 and clamp it at that fold?

Has anyone tried ordering a Par2Pro SQ raw material screen 2, 4, 6 etc feet wider than needed and then folding it back on itself 180 degrees at the edge of your enclosure? I've heard of wrapping it around a pipe at either end and bungeeing it back to itself behind the setup (per Ron at GungHoGolf) but I would prefer to avoid having bungees stretched across nearly the entire width of the screen (I think they'd get in the way of other things I might want to put back there like sound and bounce deadening materials + some other reasons related to how I want to build my enclosure). I'm picturing tarp clips clamping the folded over edge (so it would need to be quite a tight fold, maybe so tight that it would leave a permanent crease mark in my screen once I've nearly worn out the middle and want to shift the screen over a couple feet. I don't mind the thought of a light crease off to the side. Just wondering if anyone has tried folding this material back on itself tight enough to get a tarp clip on it securely. Maybe I'm just being stupid...

Yes I’ve done this and yes it leaves a crease that eventually goes away. The tarp clip indentations take longer to go away

Thanks for confirming that for me wbond! Did this method give you any problems or did you stop doing it for any reason? Any comment on how many extra feet I could have hanging out back there (did you need to support the extra in any way?)

I feel a steamer would take out the pinch mark from the screen.

I have about 2-3’ extra on sides with about a 1’ extra on top. Still do it. I did not add any extra support

I just set up a new screen and I did just what u described. Folded over about 2’ of excess screen. Used 3 tarp clamps on each side of screen.
Creases are not that sharp r prominent with only a few clamps. Also once projector is on creases are not visible. FYI. Also have Par2pro sq raw screen

Thanks everyone, I'll be moving ahead with this plan for the screen.

I hadn't thought of adding extra to the top. I know the middle wears out early, does the top of the middle wear out extra early?

I've read its mostly the ball spin that tears the screen up vs brute force impact of faster (and therefore lower) shots.

Bottom middle half gets majority of hits with most velocity and wears out quicker . Upper half wedges with spin but not high ball speed.

If I could suggest another idea. I purchased a custom sized tarp from Heavy Duty Tarps - see link to site and my finished product here: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-build-details.
They build it exactly to your required dimensions. They also have an option to fold back and sew 4 inch flaps in the top and bottom, which I did. That way you can hang your tarp off a metal bar on top and bottom, which keeps it firm without needing to secure to grommets. I have had it for 2 months and am pleased with how it works.

PS: As it wears you can also easily flip it 180 degrees and back to front to spread out the wear areas.
            Working...
