  • How to get ZERO bounce back

    Hi Y'all,

First post here. I've scoured this site for months to pick out everything for my simulator. Now everything is getting here and I'm in need of some advice.

I have a Carls DIY enclosure with Premium screen, 2 Queen size memory foam mattress toppers each being 2 inches thick and just ordered a 10x10 Dynamax golf impact net. This build is in a spare bedroom which is only 11' wide x 15' deep x 9' height. My tee will be approximately 7' from the screen. I'm looking to have the balls hit the screen and fall straight down.

From what I've read, my best best may be to hang the net directly from the EMT behind the screen, then leave a small gap between the memory foam. Looking for suggestions on how I should set this up to eliminate all bounce back. With this setup, how tight should the screen and the net be?

    Thanks in advance!

That seems excessive. I have par2pro sq screen with just a net hanging behind (touching it actually) and tops I get for a bounce is 1 foot ( tops).

I had the screen loose and a mattress topper hanging right behind it off conduit frame and was getting a couple feet bounce back with a half shot from a 4 iron. I plan on using driver, so I just bought the net. I’m fine with overkill if it works.

Is your screen and net tight or loose?

Snug with no wrinkles or droops.

The screen is what I would call snug. All the bungees attached at the top. Half on the sides and none on the bottom. Should I put the net on tight as well or have a little give to it?

Obviously need to absorb all the energy to get no bounceback. Thus, layers of stuff might be working against you if its too rigid. Loose hanging screen is probably most absorbent. Also, floor cushion could help prevent it going 7 feet.

If by chance your net is black, watch to see if any color transfers to back of screen. I had that happen with a different brand, but caught it before it was a problem.

I’m going to lay down some carpet padding underneath some turf to keep it at the screen. And I made sure to order a white net for that reason. Thanks for the input

Did you have a chance to hang the 2" memory foam mattress behind the screen? Is the memory mattress in contact for a few inches behind the screen?

I am in the planning stage and will buy a 3" full size memory foam mattress. I will attached the mattress with cover to a peg board by using a 6" sewing needle and thread it back and forth to keep the mattress fully supported by the peg board. The peg board will be hanging from the frame that hangs the screen. I also have the option of supporting the peg board/mattress with the ceiling joists.

I have the memory foam hung from angle iron. It’s about 3 inches off the back wall and about the same from the screen. I have about 1-2 foot bounce back with half swing iron shots right now. I’ll be hanging the net on Wednesday and try to figure out a way to get the ball to drop straight down

Wow, that is a lot more bounce back that I had anticipated. I will play with the gap (between mattress and screen) to see what is the optimal distance. Please provide updates with your archery net.

I have nothing but a screen ( the one sold here for while), hung without very much tension. I get very little bounce back fr I'm long clubs. Only 8ssue I have is with scoring clubs. Ball has a tendency to hit the screen spin up and then down. Nothing bad but I would like less.

Man, the only bad bounceback I get is if a ball hits one of the EMT pipes. I bought 1.5" thick memory foam mattress toppers from Amazon and on the Carls setup I cut them 4" wide and slipped them in and then reconnected velcro. that's working well so far. Also make sure your bungees are secured on the BACK of the EMT frame, not the hitting side. That seems very obvious but the diagram in their pamphlet made it look like they were situated on the inside. On the Carls premium screen I don't get any BAD bounceback, it's pretty gentle. Anyway, just make your friends sign a release so they can't sue you if they get hit by a ball.....

Pipe insulation wont' work on 1" EMT, at least with the Carls enclosure. They sell stuff for the "Pro" enclosure but it's like $7.50 a lineal foot. Too rich for me.
