Best way to reduce impact noise on simulator enclosure.

Hey guys I have the Carl's premium impact screen in an enclosed part of my basement with a 7 foot bay. I am trying to find ways to reduce the noise of impact particularly impact of the screen.
What solutions have you guys tried?

Padding behind the screen or loosen the tightness of the screen. When you impact a tight screen you are banging a huge drum. You want the screen to stop moving or make the screen cone from the impact to reduce the low-frequency waves.

I bought a drop black sheet to hang behind the same screen. It is supposed to enhance the image. It does, if there is light behind the screen, if its dark there is no difference. I also thought maybe it would help with noise. It doesn't. I've heard of guys hanging memory foam behind. Not sure if it's possible to reduce it. It would be nice, but a golf ball travelling at 150mph is likely to produce some decent noise.

I highly recommend multiple layers of material behind your screen to both reduce noise and rebound. I have a Carl's Premium screen and with nothing behind the screen, the impact is loud and it forms a very visible dent in no time. I have three layers of backing in the following order:

1. black mesh tarp that looks like a windscreen from a tennis court
2. moving blankets from Harbor Freight
3. black, 11mil plastic tarp

I experimented a lot and found that when I had the moving blankets directly behind the impact screen, I blew holes in them within a week. I put the mesh between the impact screen and moving blankets and it helped tremendously as I have no more holes in the moving blankets and the mesh is holding up perfectly. I tried hanging the 11 mil tarp directly behind the impact screen, but the impact hits the second layer so hard that it was like hitting the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. So, since I had the tarp and put grommets in it, I just hung it behind the other two layers and it does seem to improve the image on the impact screen as it blocks light from behind.

I have one other thing to do, as discussed in another thread on this forum, I have purchased a Photo Backdrop which I will hang in FRONT of the Impact Screen. It is purported that these screens provide a much crisper image, can take the impact without damage, and only cost about $30 for a 10x10 piece. I have my photo backdrop, but I'm traveling this week so I wont have a chance to install it until this weekend. When I do, I will post images.

It the photo backdrop really works, I am going to recommend to my fried who just bought a Skytrak that he try an Archery Baffle fronted with the photo backdrop. Every review of archery baffle I have read says that they are the quietest impact material for golf balls. Should be interesting.

Did the photo backdrop end up working out ok? Curious if the photo backdrop rubbing against the impact screen would cause any wear over time?

I've been using that Photo Backdrop in front of an 801 (3-layer) impact screen for months and see no noticeable wear on the impact screen. There is quite a bit of ball burn on the Photo Backdrop which is why I bought it (as a protection), and can replace it very inexpensively.

Aside from the other suggestions - any chance you can add insulation so the sound does not carry? Is there a space in the ceiling you can add something like Roxul Safe 'n' Sound (what I used) or blown in insulation to? Are the wall accessible?

How did you mount this to your screen area? Create grommets? or something else?
