  • FORB Proflex Golf Net Cage

Looking to add a portable net to use outside for sim play. Came across this net on Amazon and it looks like it would be perfect. Any thoughts on this?

I have a dedicated indoor sim, but it's only suitable for right handed players due to space and it also has some ceiling height issues for my taller buddies who are unable to hit driver in the room. I figured if I got this portable net I could easily take the sim experience outdoors and just use a TV on the side for the screen. I have a Mevo+ so it's super portable to begin with and it would be the best of both worlds to have the ability to take the unit anywhere and not have to build out a bulky sim cage with EMT etc etc.

So I bought the net and think it's awesome. A few points on why I like this over a rukket.

1). It has ceiling / top support: The rukket nets are fine nets I'm sure, but with a Mevo+ unit you need 8ft of ball flight, and if you want to play sim golf and have any hope of hitting full 60 degree lob wedges you are going to need top cover.
2). Setup time is 5 minutes or less: It's like a pop-up tent of sorts. Super easy to setup and take down and easy to store.
3). Portability: With this net, a Mevo+ and an Ipad you could literally go to the park and play full on sim golf. You could bring the sim experience to a friends house or to a party, the options and potential are awesome. Say the wife doesn't want a full enclosure in the back yard, this net would solve that.
4). Replacement Parts: As with all things I'm sure eventually the net will wear out or get a hole or something. Good ne ws is you buy nets on amazon and fix / patch / replace as needed. You are really buying the engineering and the frame of this device, not so much the net. You could easily hang PR-20 or painters tarps or newer nets to enhance / extend the life of this device. It does come with double nets in the back and it easily handles my 155 - 160mph ball speeds with driver, but I'm sure at some point with additional use I will need to replace a net or do some patching down the road and I think it will be very easy to do based on the design of the frame.

I'm sure you could full on project to this thing if you hung an impact screen on it. It's 8x8x8, so plenty big enough to get a nice image projected if one wanted to. Here are some pics that I took today when I set this up in my driveway for my son to hit some shots into.

      Hi,

I bought the net, looks great. There are really no videos of how it works, looks, etc. So it was a bit risky purchase for me. any chance you could make a detailed video of how you put it down and store it? If you have the time and can do it 😊

Putting it up is very fast! 2-5 minutes as you said. But only if it is not fully folded to start with. Putting it down is very fast as well, Same or faster but only until the point where I have to store the net. I have not really found the best way to fold it and store it. Every time I folded, the next time I want to put it up... it is just messy, the legs and metal parts get tangled and it's hard to tell which one to move and in what direction. Maybe I'm doing it wrong or you have a better way 🤷. Only used it 2-3 times. So far I take it down, folded up to the length of the back of the net and keep it that way. Next time I just need to extend the side legs and it's easier. Because, again, when I fully folded it is hard for me to assemble it back and also the net gets stuck everywhere when I'm having difficulties opening it and I'm afraid it will get damaged. So I've opted to not fully fold/close it.

Thanks, hopefully you get to see this message. Nice setup and I'm glad you can enjoy golf with your son.

So I've tried several ways to put the unit away. I find it best to just bunch the net up in the middle when folding it up. No real neat way to really do it since there is so much material. It still goes down and can be put away in under 5 minutes. The netting does get tangled in with the metal material of the frame at times. I'm just careful when I go to set it up to make sure I'm not snagged anywhere. I suppose if you wanted to make the setup / teardown faster you could leave it partially up and it would still store in a pretty small space. This is by far the best portable setup that I've seen / used. Like I mentioned before, the engineering is what I paid for. The net seems totally capable of stopping all of my shots, and if / when the net breaks down it will be easy to patch / repair with netting that can be purchased from amazon.

I literally set this up on my driveway for testing. I used some EVA foam from the back of the net to my hitting matt and some putting turf to make things level. Plus a simple gymnastics mat for shank protection and we were good to go. Setup / teardown in 5 mins or less. Plus all the gear fits in the trunk of the car with no problems, so you can bring the sim anywhere. If you wanted to I imagine you could get a sheet or backdrop or even a full blown impact screen to hang in the back and project to it. Lot's of possibilities with this setup. I'll take a video and post it in the coming weeks. This would be a good video for "Golf Simulator Video" guy to do. Take the sim on the road type of video showing some outdoor setups.

I've put it up and taken it down about 10 times. It gets easier and faster as you learn how all the parts move. It's pretty sturdy and can take a pounding. The rods are pretty tough and overall build quality is good. Happy with this purchase and think it solves a niche of the market that is looking for a product like this. Sure, it's more expensive than a traditional backyard net, but for those of us that want to do sim golf we need the lob wedge and side protection that you don't get from a traditional net. I suppose an enterprising DIY'er could engineer something similar, but this works great for me and I will be using it a good bit this summer.

Hi. About to move from an apartment to a house with a yard so excited to get some more, non driving range use from my Mevo +. Looking at getting the FORB Proflex net, curious if any of your opinions have changed with a few more months use?

          Thanks in advance!

Still think this is a great net. I've used it for multiple outdoor gatherings and it's worked out great. Actually going to take it to a friends house in a couple weeks and set it up in his back yard. Like I mentioned before it's like a sim in a box setup. So easy to transport and take with you. You will need some additional things for this net. One being something for the bottom unless you are on grass. I tend to set this up in my driveway and need some EVA foam pads on the bottom to keep the ball from bouncing on the pavement and getting scuffed up. Otherwise I love the 8 feet of side and top netting to allow players of any ability to play sim golf on it. 60 degree lob wedges or popped up drives are not an issue and shanks and total mis-hits get caught just the same from the side nets. I do use a gymnastics mat on the side for extra protection and piece of mind, but I don't recall anyone hitting it. Still I like having that just in case. If you are going to use it long term I would probably look to add some sort of white sheet or impact screen to hang on it and possibly project on it. Otherwise you can probably use computer or TV off to the side. When I use this product outside I just bring a TV out and place it off to the side, but I also have a full enclosure inside my house that is my primary setup. The reason I purchased this net is because my indoor environment is not suited for taller or left handed players and I like hosting my friends to come over and play virtual golf. So far it has worked out great and I love the engineering of the product. The net is not top of the line netting, but it's held up so far this summer with all of my friends hitting on it. It would also be easy to add additional netting or hang an additional impact screen. I think it's still worth the investment into it. Hope that information helps.

            Hello,

Thank you for sharing your experience and insight. I’m expecting to receive a Garmin R10 unit (comparable to the Mevo+ in spatial requirements, mobility, etc.) so I too have found this hitting cage to be an attractive option for a sim setup. I’m curious if you still are enjoying it for that purpose or if your opinion has changed at all. Also, because of the spatial requirements of the radar devices, do you ever find shots which hit the side or top netting to have inaccurate sim flights (since their true flight is redirected by the side/top nets before traveling the required 8 feet or so)?? I hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

I've not seen issues with that, but I also have a dedicated sim room with a full cage. I only use this for mobile situations and when I take to a friends place or party. I still think it's a great product and it works better than a traditional hitting net that has no top support so you can hit lob wedges etc. This really is the best portable net for full simulator golf without building a dedicated enclosure.

Has this net held up over time? I am considering picking one up but am concerned about the durability of the mesh. I am a relatively high spin player and have driver ball speeds ranging from high 150s to mid 160s. Friends with similar ball speeds have not been able to use nets like the Amazon basics with their driver as they have put holes through it.

            Thanks!
