  • Carl's Impact Screen Bounceback - Close Range

looking into a Carl's preferred impact screen....i see that they recommend standing at least 10-11 ft. away from the screen. Based on the space limitations in my basement, I have to stand ~5 ft. from the screen. I was previously hitting into a net with a smaller screen above the net, but upgraded to a short throw projector so can now accommodate a bigger screen that covers the whole net. I tried using a cheap projection screen and put a foam mattress pad behind it but was putting holes in the screen which is why I am now looking into the impact screen. My question is around bounceback. Under the current setup, I am getting minimal bounceback with the mattress pad. But would the impact screen increase boundback? From what I've read screen tension plays a role in this....I would only be planning to mount the top so it would be hanging loose.

The screen itself will not cause any sort of increased bounce back from what you're already getting, like you mention it's all about how you tension it. You just need to give yourself enough space to swing the club and at least 6" behind the screen and you can make it work with minimal bounce back imo.

There are likely to be some screens that give a little more bounce than others, but like jerry3 said, it's more about the amount of tension in the screen than the screen itself. 5 feet is crazy close! Does your driver come close to hitting the screen on the follow through?

thank you for the responses....5 ft. is definitely cutting it close on the driver....theoretically i could move the screen back if truly needed but then would have an i-beam blocking the upper part of the screen, so that's what i'm trying to weigh.
