  • Peak's Tarps custom curtain experience review

I building a semi-movable enclosure. The side panels are curtains on tracks, the top panel is fixed, and the impact screen is hinged on one side to rotate away from the back wall (because I have storage shelves behind it). So I needed custom panels made for the sides and top. After seeing some posts here I ordered everything from Peak's Tarps (http://peaksonline.net/black_industrial_curtains.html). I ended up getting 6 separate pieces made:

    - panel for the top with grommets on all sides (to wrap around a 1" EMT frame)
    - side panels with grommets on the left and right (for tension), curtain track hangers on the top, matching PVC curtain track, and two strips of velcro running vertically 5" apart near the back of the curtain.
    - hanging baffle with two loops/pocket that runs the width of the screen - a small one at the top for holding a steel cable to hang it and a large one at the bottom for holding a length of garden hose (for weight). I'm going to hang this about 12" in front of the screen to stop balls from hitting the top of the frame.
    - side baffles that are about 14" wide and as tall as the screen with two strips of velcro on the back. These will wrap some memory foam and wood triangles and then get velcro'ed into the side curtains and sit in front of the screen to deflect balls from hitting the sides of the frame.

I used their regular (non fire retardant) stage curtains except for the impact baffle which they recommended a heavier duty nylon material. They were made and shipped out in under a week and arrived today. I haven't hung them up. They had no issue building exactly what I wanted and the quality of the material and stitching is excellent. Overall I've been super impressed with how this went and would recommend them to anyone needing custom side/top panels or curtains. I'll post some pictures once I get everything mounted.

Looking to do something similar! Please post pics (retracted and extended!) Would love to see how this turned out for you.

Also, how did you mount the impact screen?

Here's the overall picture. This in kind of a basement area where the hitting mat (quattro) is in a more open area and the screen is in a smaller area. It's very hard to photograph the black fabric so let me know if you want any more pictures. I ended up ordering 4"x4" foam wedges (6 pieces each 4' long) from https://foamonline.com/wedge/ and then wrapped them w/ the velcro backed panels at the sides and the bottom. The side curtains are on tracks and can be retracted if needed.l I took some more pictures and put them into a google album if you want to see more details: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eKQxShH3YkV4FyFW8

The quality if the fabric panels is amazing - they're really top notch. And the triangular foam and velcro panels to cover the metal pipes on the sides and the bottom turned out perfect. The hanging baffle was the trickiest part since my screen acts like a door and rotates around the right side pipe as a hinge so I can get to the storage shelves behind the screen. Overall it works great and has stopped all the high wedge shots from hitting the top bar. The Carl's premium screen is holding up ok - I'm disappointed that the wrinkles never came out of it but you can't see them when the projector is on so I haven't bothered to try and steam them out.

I don't use the putting mat for simulation - just for practice. It's a birdie ball mat and very nice except that it's incredibly fast. I got the medium speed and it's faster then any green I've ever seen. I've tried brushing it to slow it down without much affect. I put a regulation size hole and plastic cup into the floor which has worked great - it's really nice to putt on and having 12' of length is great (it's a 14' mat).

Awesome thanks for the pictures, I have to build a enclosure that is 18 wide and was wondering if the 1 inch emt frame is strong enough to span that fat and not sag ? Also I see you bungeed the bottom of your screen , did you thing that was necessary ? I guess to make a strong frame you needed the bottom emt bar?

Just saw this, figured I’d respond because I did a similar thing. I originally used 1in EMT to hang 16ft wide screen and it sagged noticeably. Still was functional and didn’t have problems using it but I ended up redoing my sim room and went with unistrut secured to 2x4s. It’s much more solid if you can do something like that. I’ll try to attach two pics

And I should say that I would also give a solid review for peak’s tarp curtains. Used them for the sides and baffles on top, worked out great, came just as ordered and were delivered pretty fast

Curious of the stopping power of those curtains TD22057 and Wysocjt -- I am planning on hanging curtains the left and the right for mishits/errant shots. About 3 feet behind the curtains are windows. Is that enough stopping power you think or do I need to add a net or something else behind them?

Also - what are you guys using to hang the curtains on? Did you buy a track or more DIY setup?

                Thanks!

Mine kill the ball so I’d say the stopping power is great. I’ve had driver mishits that hit the curtain in spots where nothing is behind it and it just drops straight down. Other places I have drywall just inches behind the curtain and there no real bounce back or contact mark on the wall. I bought their track and hooks to install
