I'm over having the best possible picture quality. I could care less. In fact I only have my projector running maybe 40% of the time. I also have a 40" inch TV mounted to the side wall and it's just easier to use that when I'm just hitting balls..
I've gone through 2 cheap but really good picture quality screens from China.
As others have noted.... Hard hit, high spin short irons cause the most wear on a screen.
I hit my wedge at 10k spin and up to 110 ball speed, 7 iron at 7k spin and up to 130 ball speed. Plus I will hit 50 or more 7 irons in row working on my swing. The first screen wore out from wedge shots, the second one from 7 iron shots.
My screen is around 9 by 15.
I am looking for suggestions on the most DURABLE setup. I read about the use of a photo drop cloth. I am considering trying that over my existing screen. Just attach it at the top. I would do this for added durability, not for a better pricture.
I am also considering using the torn screens. Cut a 4 by 9 strip and hang it in the middle (where ALL the wear happens).
I am also considering either a Carls Place impact screen or some sort of archery net. I want which ever is more durable. I would buy a Carls place screen if it will last for 3 years. But if i have to replace it every year then I might as well buy something else.
My main concern is that these screens I got from China look ultra durable and I'm beginning to think that if you pound 7 irons into ANY impact screen they will only last a 1000 shots in pretty much the same spot at that velocity and spin.
By the way it's clearly the spin that wears the screens the most. I think i could pound drives into it as long as i want and it would last much longer than if I only hit 7 irons. My problem is that 80% of the shots I hit into the screen for practice are short irons.
The only thing I have considering is making the screen even more loose. I think the looser the better when it comes to durability.
Anyways looking for suggestions if I am only looking for durability.
Have you ever noticed at the big golf stores they hit wedges into a net? Most of them don't let you hit wedges in the sim rooms. I think it's because it would wear out the screen too fast.
Anyways any suggestions would be appreciated. I need to do something. I can't keep buying two screens a year.
