  • How to attach EMT to celing?

I plan to build a 10' x 9' frame that will swing up when not in use to attach to an installed eyebolt as to allow us to park in the garage when not in use. It will only be a square frame that I will bungee/tarp clip my screen to, pretty simple, but I'm failing to come up with an idea on how to mount the top emt to the ceiling so I can swing the bottom up when not in use. Any ideas?

Use EMT hanger straps attached to some kind of hinged structure.

Not saying to use these specific ones, but you get the idea.

    Or maybe this: https://www.menards.com/main/hardwar...4448922339.htm

You could face the opening towards the wall, so it would still pivot and stay in place if you rotated the screen back towards you, or you could easily remove it if needed.

I did the following when I was building a non-boxed screen frame (e.g. EMT made into a rectangle frame) and attached the bottom to the floorboard with pipe clamps and then hooks into studs for the ceiling and then used bungees to go through screen grommets, around the EMT through to the top hook. In this way, it has some "give" to the overall frame for reducing bounce back. For your situation, you might reverse it...pipe clamps for ceiling and then bungee to hooks in the floor for some give.
Here is the article I am referencing: Enclosures - Golf simulator guide by Golf Simulator Guide
You might think about marine flip flop anchors in the floor to hook, unhook when you want the screen to come down and go up. Sample hook here: Bass Pro Shops Marine Flush Lifting Rings | Cabela's (cabelas.com)

EMT pipe clamps which I used are here: Amazon.com: Halex, 1 in. Electrical Metallic Tube (EMT) 2-Hole Strap , 61610B, 50 per pack

I am thinking that you could find two hangers and thread the top EMT through them and it would basically act as a hinge.

yep, that's what I ended up doing.

        Look up rigid pipe hangers.

runpuddrun It's been a few months, how is your ceiling swivel screen working out? Got any pics of it?

I'm about to embark on what I think is a very similar build.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom!

I'm about 75% complete with my hinged screen. I did mine differently as I needed some distance between the top pie and the ceiling, but the above methods look like they would work well. Mine is a combination of angle iron and eyebolts mounted to the ceiling, then I have carabiner clips attached to those connectors. From there, I have a zip tie and piece of rope tied off at each spot across the top (18 total connections). I have yet to hit into it, but the up/down hinging is exactly like I had hoped. Patrick76 Looks like that will work! Would love to see some finished pics or feedback after you start hitting.

Just be careful with those zip ties. I can’t remember where I saw it but they have a tendency to snap over time with the impact on the screen. Admittedly this was in zip tying the screen to the frame IIRC so you may be OK. Regardless, you may want some sort of “safety chain” or something on the ends just in case. Just a thought.

Depends on the zip tie. The 250lb ones are pretty tough (though bulky).

                There's also stainless steel ones.

The zip ties I used are rated for 200#, but I doubled up each connection point with paracord as a backup.
