    4k @ 4:3??

I’m in planning stages and have 13ft of room width… it seems my best screen size option is 12x9– my question is whether or not there is any benefit to going for 4K capabilities (vid card, projector etc) given the 4:3 aspect ratio restriction? Should 4K only be pursued if you are going to use 16:9 / 16:10 ratio? Thx

I don't think so. I only had space for a 4:3 and went w/ 4k. Pretty much every projector is 16:9/10 these days so you're comparing 1080p vs 4k regardless - you just won't be using the full set of pixels. In that case, I think it's even more important to get 4k - I wanted those extra pixels in the space that I do have. 4k gives you twice as many pixels in the vertical direction which is the most important as that's what shows items in the distance.

Of course depending on your throw ratio, 4k might be a lot more expensive. I was able to use a Viewsonic PX748-4k and got that for right at $1000. Been very happy with it so far.

I completely agree with this. You want as many pixels as possible given we are generally closer to the image than intended. Regardless of 4:3 or 16:9, having more pixels will greatly increase the viewing experience.

Is anyone running a 4k projector with 10x10 screen in 4:3? Or is it a total waste of money? Maybe the question is how to get the best image out of a 4:3 on a 10x10 screen?

Ummm - that's exactly what we've been describing in this thread. You want the max resolution you can afford. Screen shape doesn't matter at all.
