Screen size? 10'5" high ceiling, 10'11" width. Get 8x10.5 screen or 10x10?

Planning for a garage build in the 3rd car spot of my garage. I have 10.5 ft ceilings, but only have 10'11" of width to use. Probably teeing off about 10 ft from screen. So, I'm debating if I get the 8x10.5 screen and enclosure to fit, or get a 10x10 screen and enclosure. From what I can find in the forums, it is really nice to get full picture on the screen (4:3 ratio with the 8x10.5 screen) and avoid any white bar/dead space like I would get if I went with the 10x10. However, I am concerned with the errant high shots if my enclosure is only 8 ft high. Would appreciate your thoughts on how it worked out with either of those setups for anyone. Were the white bars/dead space annoying and you wish you would have done the 4:3 full screen? Or, was 8ft high enclosure too low and you ended up needing to add baffles or netting to protect the ceiling?

Please know that I'm just learning golf, and I hit more bad shots than good =)

I'd lean towards the 10 x 10.5 screen, if you're concerned about errant shots I believe the 8' tall enclosure is going to bother you more than what the screen looks like. You should be able to then, between the projector settings and PC display settings, find a resolution that would look ok based on filling a 10 x 10 screen. Might have to slightly tape the sides of the lens, might have to set the projector to fill the top or bottom of the screen depending on your preference, but at least you won't be worried about the height of the enclosure. PS No matter how you set it up you're going to hit a few shots way too high/low or too far left/right to have the enclosure contain them. Just plan for that with your setup. For example, don't have your wife's car on the shank side of your enclosure, etc...

Personally I’d do a 10.5x8 screen for the 4:3 and put it in a 11’x8.5’ enclosure. There’s no need to a 10’ tall enclosure, esp since you’re planning to tee off 10’ from the screen, in which case you can make the enclosure deeper to protect against errant (and high) shots. I have a 125”x 95” screen with an 130”x100”x36” enclosure and I stand 8.5’ from the screen and it’s perfect. No risk of shots getting outside of the enclosure.

I did a 10x10 screen at my buddy’s place. It worked perfectly.

get the 10x10. you can make the picture fit horizontally and you will have the option to turn the screen to a different side when it starts wearing out in the hitting spot giving you maybe double the life of the screen

+1 on the 10x10 recommendation. Will give a much better "immersive" experience IMO. I really like having the image run right from top to bottom without any black bars.
