Retractable Impact Screen with 12' ceilings

I am looking for some advise and direction from the forum with the simulator I am looking to install in my garage.

The garage ceilings are 12' high and I would like a retractable screen that mounts directly to the ceiling so it looks good and gets completely out of the way. The screen will be 16' wide. I am planning on using the METech's large heavy duty retractable screen drive setup. I have been working with Carl's Place on a custom premium impact screen. Their maximum screen height is 10'.

They are suggesting to sew a 3' "flap" on the top side top side to make the screen have the ability to reach the ground. The extra 12" is to wrap around the bar it rolls up on.
The problem is that the flap is made out of the black vinyl material that is usually on the sides and bottom. They say that the material should be strong enough to hold, but they can not guarantee it.

Questions:
- Does anyone have any suggestions or advise on this might work? Or any better ideas?
- There will be a sleeve across the bottom so I can put a weight (pipe) across the 16' bottom. Will this be enough to hold the screen tight, wrinkle free and also take the impact of balls?
- Do I need to bungee it to the floor?
- Will I need a pad to cover the "pipe" across the bottom?
- The screen will be 16' x 10', is this to big?

1. The black strip sounds very good and it creates the top horizontal black framing of the image. There wont’ be much (if any) direct impact to the sewed bridging so I would think as long as it has been sewed correctly you will be fine.
2. I have a sleeve with thick bungee chord, mine is fixed left and right permanently but with yours I would not go with a pipe way too dangerous, unless your hitting mat is raised above the pipe height plus a balls height. I would envisage thick bungee that attaches to anchor points when it is fully extended and then detach when not in use.

16 x 10 is the holy grail … using a projector that can do 1920x1200 16:10 , will be more expensive but more immersive , I built mine 16x10 but using it in 16x9 with extra top black strip until I get a 16:10 projector.

Thanks for your comment. I see you have a GC2 launch monitor. Are you happy with it? I am looking at the GC3, my only concern is that it appears to come with only 10 or 20 courses and it does not appear to be compatible with other software. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad to hear you think it will work. I didn't realize that it could be dangerous with a pipe. So I am thinking maybe have 2 grommets sewn on the screen about 12" from the bottom. Then I can take 2 bungees and secure it to the floor.

Since I am new to this and want to do it right what are your thoughts on the launch monitor? I am considering either the GC3. I see I can purchase with either 10 courses or 20 courses. Do you have any experience if the GC3 can integrate with any other software programs or do I need to exclusively use the foresight software?

I'm in the same boat, looking at The Sportscreen - lot of good reviews on this forum with their retractable screens for home golf enclosures.. will post some pictures once setup is complete.. have a buddy with the GC3, loves it.

What did you wind up doing with this? I am considering a MedTech Roller too. I have similar concerns about how the screen attaches to the roller and the aspect ratio based on the size i get.
