Memory Foam

If I frame my screen in a 14'w x 9'h opening with a wall to fit a 16:9 12'w x 6' 10"h screen and fill the outer section of the wall with 3LB memory foam. Will the memory foam deaden the ball and prevent bounce back? or will it make the ball react like a super ball? I will be hitting from 9'.

Memory foam will absorb and deaden the hardest of hits. You'll get more return out of the screen than memory foam.

If it is thick enough. But if the ball gets to the wood behind enough to compress the ball look out Mike. If you cover it with carpet to keep from ripping the foam when hit, you just spread out the impact area and should help slow the ball more. but it still sounds scary.

the foam would not be the biggest of my concerns here. the 6'10" tall screen would make me shiver a bit every time I hit a 9 iron at full song. My screen is 10' tall and I am 9 ft away and I am pretty sure my 9 iron hits the screen higher than 7'. My 60 is over top the screen my 56 is just over the top and my 50 is just below the top my PW is maybe a foot below that. Hell my 8 iron might even get up to 6'10". I would think that all the money you spend on memory foam you could just buy a bigger screen. And fill the hole wall with impact screen. then move your projector to adjust to fit.

But what do I know? I will tell you the one thing I am sure of..... It hurts like hell for more than just a short time when you get hit by a ball that was supposed to do something different. Personally I have eliminated any possible object that the ball can hit flat. I use round 1"conduit and still the ball can come back at you if it hits it just right. But the round has made the instances of that happening to maybe once or twice every year. but it hurts when you get hit. I never was much good at dodging bullets. Mike if your a young guy maybe that might be an added element of fun dodging all them shots. But I like to hit then sit down and drink my whiskey while I heckle the guys on the other team. Not nurse a bloody nose.

I only have 5" behind my screen.. I've brought some heavy duty canvas today to put behind my screen I will try it this week. Currently I have a screen a 1" gap a blackout curtain and 4" to the wall and it almost does the job. I expect the heavy duty canvas to work but will update later

My setup is framed in and now I am contemplating where to place the screen in relation to the back wall as well. Is 1 ft standard?

I'd like to put at 6", but am afraid of bounce back and I was considering the use of foam as well on the wall.

6" gap plus 2" thick low density foam I would think would do the trick...thoughts?

Lake, I think a net behind your screen would be more practical. That said, I think the foam behind the screen should work just fine.

I'm at 8 inches. Screen then net then 3 inch memory foam. Works great.

Got mine down to 6" using a canvas tarpaulin 1" behind the screen. It's a makes a bit of a noise thought.

I'm at 6.5 inches to be exact. Screen then heavy curtains then net. I doubt it moves more than 3 inches on the hardest drives.

I like the memory foam idea and seriously thinking about it too. Have you thought about using the padding on your walls?

I have 6" between my wall and screen. Queen memory foam mattress provided a perfectly dead and very quiet bounce back but the mattress got shredded behind main impact area. I now have a huge hole in my drywall behind screen. I ended up hanging two 5' x 5' moving blankets (overlapping each other) in front of the memory foam in main impact area and has been working like a charm since.
