Thanks so much for all the posts and ideas that have been generated from your builds. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’d like to-do but would appreciate any feedback before I start my build. It’s a lot but here is what I’m thinking.

I’ve got a garage gym built in the single garage that is attached to the double door garage that has horse stall mats down. They are 4x6ft mats at 3/4in think. Wanting to buy more 4x6 mats to add to the other side of the garage for a multi-use space (More gym usable space and also a nice base for the golf sim)
I’m working on a drop downside curtain protection and top protection but that can be for a later post. These are the 2 main things I’m trying to finalize. Thank you for any advice. Seems like this would be a setup for a lot of 2 car garage sims on a budget.

- Two car garage the wife parks in. So, needs to go up and down quickly (under 5min)
- Moved to a side opening garage opener already and have a 16ft garage door opening.
- Ceiling height is around 20ft+
- Already have Projector, Garmin R10, iPad Pro, CCE 3x5 Hitting Mat, Titleist RCT Balls

- Should I get the Preferred or Premium Screen from Carl’s? Might watch a movie or 2 but this is in a garage so 90% golf sim use. I'm thinking just go Preferred here.
- Carl’s Screen Construction – Should I get velcro installed on the left and right sides? Thinking I can build drop down curtains with velcro on the left and right sides as well to connect for side protection. A little worried that it would pull the screen to make waves but I've got small kids so side protection will become important as they get a little older.
- Should I keep the grommets at the top of the Carl's screen and screw into the SportScreen roller with self-tapping screws or if I do Velcro on top is there a place to connect the velcro that comes with the SportScreen standard 16ft x 9ft order? I’ve already got the stock 16ft SportScreen on order since it was on sale ($400 w/ shipping and tax) but not sure about the impact screen connection point.
- Should I connect the Carl’s impact screen anywhere else to the SportScreen besides just the top section? I plan on pulling the middle rod out of the SportScreen and replacing the bottom metal rod with it.
- For the bottom they can make a rolled opening to hold a rod. Wouldn't a garden hose filled with sand not be the best option so it will not bounce back at all but give you a decent adjustable weight? I haven’t seen that idea passed around so curious your thoughts?
Landing Area Setup:

- I’m thinking about laying down 4 horse stall mats in the middle section of the impact screen. It’s a 16ft screen and this would be in the middle 12ft, so 2ft without mats on the left and right side. Figure that would be fine for drop coverage so the balls don't land on the concrete flooring.
- For the Garmin, You need 9ft from the ball to the screen and 7ft back from the ball to the GarminR10. That means if I do the 4 mats that makes a 8ft deep by 12ft wide area. Then I place my hitting mat behind that which is a 3x5ft. Making the area where I hit the ball around 9-10ft. which is perfect. That gives me 3/4in high in front of my 1 ¾ hitting mat. So around a 1in difference currently with just the mats.
- I’m thinking about adding a 8x12ft BirdieBall putting mat on top of the horse stall mats at around $500. That makes the area in front of my hitting mat ½in shorter and now I have a landing area of my balls (on the birdieball mat), so the screen won’t add black spots and I get a large putting green to practice on. Will add holes etc on the corners.
- I haven’t seen anyone do this but it makes a lot of sense to me and at a pretty good cost instead of just doing cheap turf from HD etc. I’d leave the horse stall mats down all the time and park on them. Just roll up the birdieball putting mat and put away. Very light stuff.
- Also, with this build I hope the base rod for the SportScreen and base “water hose with sand” rod in the Carl’s Impact Screen will be set right behind the Horse Stall Mat and BirdieBall putting green combo. So the ball wouldn’t have a direct impact is missed etc. Should look pretty clean too I would think.
