  • Best way to patch a hole in The Net Return V2

    Hi Guys,

I have a brand new Pro Series Net Return that I have had for about 6 months (it was a replacement for my old V1 net that I had for about 4 years). I also had the Net Guardian installed to give it some added protection. My net is set up on my rooftop balcony and as I was playing the other day, I hit a golf ball that "disappeared". Upon inspection, I realized that it had broken through the and sailed into the yard of the neighboring office building. I didn't hear it hit anything and it was at night so it pretty much went unnoticed (although I am sure that someone has found the golf ball by now).

Anyway, I realized that where the net guardian was installed/tied, it was pulling the net and making a vulnerable spot and I just happened to hit the ball right on that vulnerable spot and the ball sailed straight through. The Net Guardian seems to be a good concept but it is relatively heavy and pulls the net too much at the points where it is tied to the main net. It is also pretty short in height so it is a bit hard to find the sweet spot for placement to ensure maximum protection.

I contacted Net Return and they are going to send me a warranty replacement. In the meantime, I was wondering what would be the best way to repair the current net to use until the new net arrives. The idea would be to try to patch the hole and then put the net guardian over that spot to ensure that the ball doesn't go through again. I also want to try to figure out a way to use the Net Guardian so that it does not create vulnerabilities along the net (e.g., tying it together in more places to more evenly distribute the weight, or installing it vertically to ensure that I am always hitting the guardian).

Any thoughts or advice on how to patch the net in the first place?

You can't patch a net. Once it goes, it really starts going. Temporarily, put the Net Guardian over that spot. Maybe double it up and use zip ties to secure it to the main net.

Then, when new net arrives, cut up the old one in the non-affected areas and make a a second Net Guardian. I did that and it works great.

Thanks. I tried to patch the net and also put the net guardian vertically to ensure that it covered up the hole and was completely covering the area where I normally hit. The added benefit is that it gives me a narrow target line to shoot for.

Now, once the new net arrives, I am debating whether to even use the net guardian. While it seems to be a good concept, the net guardian itself is actually pretty heavy and puts additional strain on the parts of the net where it is connected to the original net. That absolutely contributed to putting the hole in the original net. the larger the guardian, the heavier it becomes and the more strain it puts on the net. Additionally, I don't really have the ball speed to cause too much wear to necessitate a net guardian anyway.

Can you share a picture of how you have your old net installed as a guardian?
