  • Will this ceiling height work for a simulator

    Hi.
Been lurking around here, trying to learn.

Now i am thinking of building my upper floor on my house and would like to have a simulator there if at all possible. It is a vaulted ceiling so the sim will have to be placed a bit to the right (no leftys here) the area is 17ft deep so there is plenty of room but i don't know about the ceiling height and i cant try it since it's not built yet.
Any thoughts? Click image for larger version

    You have three basic concerns:

1, Can you swing without hitting the sides of the ceiling. 8.5 feet is on the hairy edge and if you are taller then 6 feet, over the hairy edge.

    2. The 8,5 height, and 6.7 feet wide severely limits the projection screen you can use. In your case it would be probably be better to use a large TV off to the side to display ball flight, hole layout etc.

    3. You will also have to construct/order an odd size cage and netting. If you just use a net with no sides or top, you had better be quick on your feet to dodge any stray shots since the ceiling will direct them right to the middle of the room.

That said it is probably doable with some preliminary thinking and design iterations.

Hi. And thanks for the reply.

      I am 5ยด11

The highest part is actually 9.4 ft but its only 3.6 ft wide up there. The rectangle in the drawing is just to show how wide area is 8.5ft high.

TV on the wall is a good idea. I will likely construct the cage myself.

Maybe i'll quick build a wooden frame outdoors just to try this :-)

The reason I mentioned the 8.5 is this is where you will be if you back off the ball and take a practice swing. Two people have managed to hit the cage metal poles in my setup doing this and the cage is 9 feet high by 13 feet wide. The ball location is right in the middle so one can aim down the center of the projected image exactly parallel to the launch monitor (GC2) case.

What I found out from these occurrences is my cage poles are stronger then modern titanium metal wood heads since both people put small dents in the crown of their clubs.while the poles didn't even get a scratch in their powder coating.

You will be in tough to swing In there but it is what it is. You'll get the hang of it. You have room for screen no problem. A tv is no where as good as a screen.
