    Noise Reduction for a Garage Sim Build

    I am running into what I hope is the last of the actual challenges of building a simulator room. If I hit the wedges and irons the sound is fine, however if I hit a driver the volume is absurd.

    I do not want to hit almost golf balls as that would defeat the purpose of this simulator room as a practice facility for the winter. I want to accurately gauge performance and am building this to be a combine for golf and fitness.

    What is the best way to dampen the noise of a golf simulator? I have been looking into acoustic foam, but have ran into a snag in determining what is appropriate amount and patterns to use. It seems like all of the information regarding this on the internet is for instruments and gets quite complex. The golf related searches on google lead to "use almost golf balls" on every single one.

    Unfortunately, I think you might find this is a "try it out" type of scenario.
    It really depends on where you are trying to keep the noise from going...

      If that ends up being the case I will try to figure out some dos and donts from acoustic forums and post them here.

      I was hoping someone had experience with acoustic foam and could point me in the direction of a brand that is reasonable on price but still good quality.

        Resilient channel, roxul safe and sound insulation and an extra layer of drywall will pretty much sound proof the room.

          The side walls were soundproofed by the builder. The spot that needs some sound reduction is where the Garage door is. Do you think a sound blanket like what they use in gun ranges could work?

          Side note I am using some acoustic foam in the hitting areas to lessen the echo, but the only area of issue is in the outside of my garage door.

        It'll help I'm sure but I don't know to what extent. Sounds like a trial and error thing. Sound will carry through joists so you need stop it before that. I imagine it'll be enough.

          This is a very old thread but I tried almost golf balls and the difference in noise was nearly imperceptible to my friends and me. Measured it on a decibel meter: 85 db for real ball, 83 for almost ball. I don’t get why everyone recommends them.
