  • amazon screens?

Has anyone bought one of these screens from amazon? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016D...+impact+screen

I was wondering what they are similar to?

How's this for a response from the vendor?

thanks for filing a return request on this screen. now ebay is holding my money
send me pics of the screen

    ****

Apparently I'm not supposed to follow the ebay process for a defective item? Note, i called twice and then left a message on the second call and I also attached pics for them to review. Here is what i wrote to them for the reason.
Return reason: Doesn't work or defective
Comments: Hello, I just received my screen and when i opened it, it appears that there is like a run in the matierial or snag for about a 5 section, it s missing thread and just below this, there is a lot of thread that is bunched up in a squiggly line for the same length. I have also called and left a message. Please send a replacement. I can be reached at XXXXXXXXX
Here are pics of the screen. In pic two, you can see a straight section and when you hold it up, there is a clear void with thread bunched up above the void.

Mike 80, thanks for all the pictures an comments... Very useful as I work through my own build.

        A few qns...

        1) with projector placed on the floor... Does this not get hit by bounce back balls... And is there any plastic protection in front of the lens ( I will be relocating my 1080 Panasonic HT, and very concerned on potential damage)

        2) I was in process of building a 5*4 hitting platform out of plywood and styrofoam... As have an optishot insert, and may also add a further strip for skytrak when I eventually upgrade. Thoughts on platform v hitting Mat?

        3) the 5x5 hitting turf you bought... Can you advise the rough dimensions of packaging when received in post... And is this boxed or bagged ( I'm guessing 5x1.5) and also rough weight? ..... I may have to bring as checked luggage when flying out of US.

        4) screen - I have built a 3m x 3m frame. Not sure if I should fill the whole square, or perhaps get smaller height, and then have a tapered netting from top of screen (say 8' height) to the top of the cage at 10' / 3m height??

Also on screen width, would you go slightly shorter so that bungees can pull from grommets to frame and ensure tightness??

I was wondering this myself. I'm wondering how bad the image will be since it appears to almost be missing half the thread in a straight line. The pics don't really show it that great, but it's quite noticeable just in the daylight with nothing shining on it. If they go that route, i will only do it if i can hang it first and see how bad the image is. I don't want an obvious void in the picture at this point.

You paid full price for a product that wasn't defective. It's clearly defective. It's on them to provide you with one that isn't. The bottom line is the screen will take a beating and that line will likely not matter in the long run but you didn't buy a screen with a line.

CBDBOZ Here's some answers to your questions:

          1) The metal box protecting the projector on the floor does not have any front covering. It is open in the front and back end. I have never had any issues with a ball bouncing back too hard hitting the projector.

          2) I would recommend just getting two 5'x5' Commercial hitting mats from:

If you have an OptiShot, you could cut out the rectangle opening in the turf and place the OptiShot and turf cover in the cut out. Definitely get a thicker turf cover for your OptiShot. If OptiShot and turf sits higher than the big turf mat, you could place a 1/2" or 3/4" plywood on the floor to raise the turf and drop the OptiShot to the floor and adjust height.

Also recommend screwing the turf mat to the floor. If concrete, get the special concrete screws. You may only need to screw in the front corners. That will help the mat from sliding.

          3) The turf came wrapped in plastic and rolled up. So it was 5' tall and about 1.5' wide. Not sure on weight. Maybe 35 lbs.

          4) Your call on the netting. I wrapped the inside of my cage with netting on both sides, top and back. Used zip ties to secure the netting to the cage. I have the netting very tight.

Yes, I would have the screen width slightly short than cage width so you can pull tight with the bungees. Maybe 1.5" to 2" on each side.

You could also wrap the metal cage with those pipe insulators like these:

          Good luck!

              Thanks Mike.... Great feedback

What is the black material with grommets that you use on your set up.. Pvc tarp?.., and can you let me know where you sourced from pls ?

On the screen height, I notice that your cage is 8 ft high so assume you are swinging drivers outside of the cage?

I think I may put another bar across the back of my 10 ft cage at the 8ft level and attach this to the top of my screen. And then possibly taper the black material and or netting up the the 10 ft level at the front of the cage ( if that makes sense...) will also save me 2ft x 10ft of screen material that I would otherwise not use.

CBDBOZ I purchased the vinyl tarps from http://www.tarpsplus.com/vinyl-tarp.html

I called them up and had them custom made to fit my dimensions. I put the tarps on the left, right and top of cage. It works very well.

Mike- Can you attach a picture of your set up? Also, what specific tarp material did you go with from tarps plus?

kgil3 I believe it was a vinyl tarp. I don't recall what thickness. I called them originally asking about another tarp and explained what I was building. The guy on the phone said other people have ordered tarps for building golf simulators and he recommend a specific tarp. Just call them up and they should have some good recommendations for you!

I attached my golf simulator pics on Page 1 of this thread.

                      Question on the netting

I am going with Amazon dynamax. Wondering if I should go for 10x30 and then a 10x10 to go behind screen

                      Or

A practice cage netting from same supplier.

Practice cage would have more rope seams, plus an extra baffle net.... But not sure how this would work with a screen straight in front ( as I just have a square, and screen will also connect to back poles) ... Also, not clear if the driving cage net is high impact

                      Thoughts?
