  • First Time Sim Build - Enclosure Question

I'm looking to build a sim in my basement. The area is 15' x 15' with 8'9" ceilings from basement floor to the bottom of my ceiling joists. I'm going to eventually finish my basement in the next few years, but for now it will be a golf sim in an unfinished space. Few questions:
    1. The CCE mat and HQ2 impact screen seem to be the way to go. I was considering the raw material and using clamps just because of the price difference. Any recommendations?
    2. What screen size would people recommend for that size of room? I would love to eventually double the screen for a theater once I finish the basement.
    3. What would be a good temporary enclosure solution that I can use for now before I finish my basement?

Long time reader waiting for the Skyrak/TGC release and first time poster. Thanks in advance for the help!

I'd make the screen as much of the wall as possible. You'd might get 14'4" x 8'5" if you are careful. You can do the first 6' of walls and ceiling in plywood and carpet.

Ive been using clamps for my HQ screen since last may when I put my sim together and they havent budged yet and easily adjustable, definitely the way to go in my book

Did you use a frame built from piping or angle brackets directly on your walls?

I built a free standing 10ft frame out of pvc in the middle my 2 car garage so I would be able to still have some minor storage on one side and room for computer, clubs and all on the other. Have 4 horizontal pvc pieces up each side of the frame so it ended up very easy to attach the ball bungee with the clips to hold the screen and net, and can also just slide the bungee back and forward for screen tension adjustment. I attached a few pictures of how I have it holding (some came out sideways once I attached them here for some reason). The frame itself is only attached to the wall with that 4x4 you see at the button if the picture.

Ironstrokes - thanks for your help with this project! Just got my projector and etched out my image dimensions. Where did you get your clamps and bungees? I'm going to be getting the HQ2 Raw material and noticed that they sell bungees, but I'm not sure if they'll work or not and they have multiple sizes.

These are the clamps and bungees I got. Can't remember if I got the 6 or 9 inch bungees, probably the 9 though so I could wrap the cord around the pvc multiple times like you see in the picture. The clamps don't seem like much in the picture but are crazy strong in my experience so far with it and the raw hq. Good luck on the rest of the build!
