How to avoid a rocket in your face..,

I am slowly building out the cage, have a back net on and thought I would have a few shots and check if ok... All was ok, but then I completely thinned a shot which hit the bottom of the cage.... And the pipe insulation made very little difference as it rocketed past me.

Got me thinking that I need to put some serious padding at least around the front of the cage, as the pipe insulation makes very little difference.

Would be great if others can give me any ideas as to what you have done to avoid a projectile missile coming right back at ya....

I had my screen in front of my frame about 3-4" and I put roll bar padding on the frame but the ball sometimes would hit it just right and come zipping back.

I ended moving the screen 12" in front of it with bungees and I don't get and more flying back at me.

I don't think the padding will stop it from taking you out make sure that there is no way the ball can hit any part of the frame and padding.

CBD... I had originally done the same thing. The pipe insulator helps, but if you catch the pipe right, it's coming back fast, just not as fast as if you didn't have the insulation. The only way to correctly eliminate this is to have a net or the screen cover all areas of piping. The ball has to be "knocked down" by something in front of the pipe. Good luck and be safe!

On the netting... I have a 10x10 on the front, and a 30x10 going side, top and side.... But the front is zip tied to the bars, and the 30x10 is draped over the frame and then was going to zip tie so I could tighten..... Not sure how I can get the netting to cover the bars of the frame ?.. ( from the inside??)

Same for the screen.... How would I get it to cover the bar or piping, as I was just going to bungee from screen to piping/bar... Again not sure how I could get it to sit in front of the bars??

( unless on the screen, I have another 2 vertical bars say 12" in front. But then the back net would not offer support to the screen... And wouldn't the screen become concave as it would pull in towards the middle.... And still have side bar/piping issue.... And wouldn't Bala go over top of screen and in between screen and netting ( on odd occasion??

Roll bar padding may be a way to go,,, but assume could be pricey..

Did you ever find a good solution to this problem?

This is literally the biggest thing holding me up from really starting my build right now... Before I settle on an enclosure design I'm determined to find a solution that absolutely prevents the stray ball from rocketing back at my face.

It looks like protecting the bottom bar is doable (put a little padded ramp in front), but I haven't seen any builds where the top and side bars are sufficiently padded/guarded. Some people put curtain/vinyl over them, but that looks aesthetic and not particularly protective of high velocity bound back...

I had the same problem. I now use taut steel rope tensioned between the left and right bars about 4" in front of the top bar for hanging the screen. As long as your frame is sturdy to enable you to tension the rope you can eliminate any bounceback threat and just need to add some padding to cover up any hooks hanging the screen and fill any gap between the screen and your roof/enclosure netting/padding. For tension, the top bar will be just behind giving rigidity but if your frame is lightweight/thin, the tensioned rope could pull/bend the side bars in.
My screen hangs from carbine hooks which works great but if your screen is integrated in the the frame this might not be an option.
Occasionally a ball sneaks through the gap between top of my screen and my roof netting but as I have perimeter netting on my full frame it just falls down the back behind my screen and I just scoop them out from time to time.

It's impossible for me to hit any of my top or side pipes. I don't have a bottom one... so this isn't an issue either.
On my previous build (link on the first page of the one above) I had a metal bar at the base of my screen. I made a ramp to solve that issue which worked pretty well!

Check out the Protective Pad in the Optional Equipment section at http://www.virtual-golf-simulator.co...Equipment.html. It's an off the shelf solution another member mentioned. It costs about $80 to your door and you get 2 five foot sections of the covered wedge shaped pad. I just received mine Tuesday. There is also a way to make a custom design pad thru Amazon but I opted to buy what the other forum member posted.

Looks like you put up black trim in front of the bars? What material is that? How much does it deaden the ball?

It looks like it's just cloth and it wouldn't slow down the ball that much if you hit it at a bar, but maybe I'm not interpreting it right?

If you look further through the post, it shows you the thickness of the material and explains what it is. It's capable of deadening a ball to almost falling straight down.

It doesn't matter anyway - as my curtains are attached right to the edge of my screen. The metal pole is about 5" further to the side behind the black trim. A wild shot will hit the curtain and can't get anywhere near the pole. I don't know if that makes sense? It not, a drawing is probably the best way to explain it!

I managed to get around the issue on the floor pipe, by raising the flooring to the height of the the pole... just need to get the turf to go on top and should be fine

On the sides I have insulation cover on the emt pipes and will probably add a material cover to make it look nicer.. same for the top bar. Will post pics when done.
