Been really struggling lately to get out to the driving range and while looking online, I stumbled on the affordable Optishot, then the others, then this forum. Happy to be here...
It’s like the golf gods have shone their light upon me and my terrible short game.
But wow, after reading, saving links, more reading, I feel like Ive got a million questions.
So here we go
What i’m looking for / What I have
Room is 22’ by 15’, will likely play at night but plan to marked out if required.
I’ve got one long wall I can do about 14’ or maybe 16’ but I have some other things in the room.
Hi-Definition 1080P Projector as we’ll watch TV in this room as well
Impact Screen - Able to withstand real golf balls directed at it
Need to buy - Projector, Screen, Mat, a decent short game
Screen - Marked S
S1- Are the HQ Material, without the hemming from Par2pro the best? Been speaking to Cory about one.
If you see the diagram attached, my ceilings are 11’. I was planning to go with a 16:9 projector but the length of the room prohibits more than say 14’ wide.
Looking for
S2 - Is there a minimum height before the game looses it’s realistic nature. I see most people go up to 8’9. I can do the full 10+
S3 - For the HQ material (Raw) can I fold it over and wrap it around metal tubing rather than using grommets (sewing in a loop?)
Projector - Questions marked with P
P1 - I’m look at the BenQ 1085ST, Optima models, but given the picture attached, do you recommend another. Would like to keep the price sub $1000
P2 - If I place the projector per the diagram below, will I get shadow? I can move it anywhere, I just don’t know how to read the stats at projectorcentral.com. It’s all jargon to me relating to throw distance, throw ratio, etc
I can also get the BENQ TH682ST where I live for $1,000 USD
Design - Questions marked with D
D1 - Given the pictures attached and possibly a 16:9 monitor, how far back do you figure the hanging projector should go (Since i’ll watch movies, I cannot use the floor standing). Maybe I could if I put a coffee table above it but…
D2 - I’m looking at some mesh on tracks, is the 190 lb test mesh decent to stop a real golf ball deflection?
D3 - Should i really be going for 4:3 or 16:9 ?
If this project works and I use it as expected, I may opt to go something like sky or TGC in the future.
Any other info that you have would be great.
Many thanks to everyone. I’ve gotten some great ideas.
