ID:	85231 Hi

I am making plans to convert my garage into a sim room. Problem is my lack of technical skill so would greatly appreciate any help.

I am thinking about a Skytrak or a Protee setup

The garage has the following measures:
    - 4.5m length or circa 14.5 feet
    - 3.4o cm width or roughly 11 feet
    - plenty of height,

however, starting at roughly 2m / 7 feet high sits an attic, supported by thick beams that partly 'go into' the side walls for stability.

As it may not be possible to remove all of them (as it currently might support the roof ?) I am wondering if I can keep some of them.

Lets say I kept a 1 or even 2 side beams in place that sit close to the impact screen, would that work at all or does the projector for example need to be placed higher? In other words, can I play around with the position of the projector to compensate, without losing the key benefits?

    thank you

Unless you plan on owning that house and never plan on selling it this should not be done. If you are committed to move forward first thing I would do is get a hold of a structural engineer and him draw up how to do this as having a roof collapse because it's in the way of your golf swing is not good

      Hi,
thanks for the reply. You are absolutely right: this should only be done if the roof can remain fully supported. I will ask advice on this from an expert, which I should have mentione din my description.

assuming that it is possible to selectively remove some beams, can I play around with the projector to make it work?

There is a really useful tool online that helps you calculate setup dimensions for any given projector. As an example, lots of members use a short throw projector made by BenQ
Calculate the perfect throw distance and screen size for your BenQ W1080ST projector with the ProjectorCentral Projection Calculator Pro.

You might be able to hang the projector from where the beams start and still get a big enough image.

It would be helpful if you had a sketch or better pictures of the garage configuration, and where you intend to place the screen and hitting area. You say you have plenty of height, but not where the door and those beams are located. What is the elevation from floor to bottom of the attic support beams? Are you planning on putting the screen in the area where those beams (and door) are located?

wow thats a mid century home what year is that i cant really zoom in to look at the masonry to identify but lets start off the tile roof is not going to help one bit on taking out the beams do you have access to take a pic of the attic space i would like to see where the live load is being distributed. from what i see the to middle beams are your post points that are holding up your hips as you got no favors with not having a ridge.

ID:	85338 Hi Aeroburner. House is roughly 80 years old...

hereby some (I admit very poor) pictures, it is actually quite hard to climb up there and the light is broken
