  • Monster Mat/Martin Hall Gorilla Mat/ CCE

Can anyone explain briefly the differences in these 3 mats? My sim room is approaching 3 years old and I've used the Monster Mat since day 1. Shows very little wear and I'm pretty happy with it. It's just that when you hit it a teeny weenie bit fat... you get severely punished with loss of distance. So I'm kind of looking for something better....

It seems each mat has pluses and minuses. Sounds like the Fiberbuilt is a pretty good mat but horrible for putting. I'm looking for a mat which feels good on the joints, doesn't punish a fat strike as much (I want to be penalized but not as severe), and can putt off of. I use a tee for driving that requires a small hole in the mat so I don't care if it can hold a real tee or not. The mat that they had at my local Golfsmith (now closed) seemed pretty good but I don't know what it was.

Any comments or advice would be beneficial. Thanks in advance.

Don't have the Martin Hall Gorilla Mat seems like it must be one of the other mats

But I have the Monster Mat, CCE and the True Strike - the Monster Mat seems more plush or softer than the CCE but seems to grab the club, CCE is tighter and is great for getting used to picking the ball and not hitting it fat, but both seems really to have a big effect on spin and ball speed when hitting a little fat. True Strike much more forgiving easier on the joints and I think it lets you get a way with fat shots that would not be good on real grass. But I'm sure that has more to do with how the grass is where I live.

I use the CCE always for the SIM but many of my buddies that come over and play good golf have a hard time with the CCE mat.

When I can play golf again - I have 50% tear in a tendon in my right shoulder (hopefully in 6 months) I'm going to use the True Strike for some forgiveness.

But without any injuries I would still use the CCE over any other mats since it really helps me with my ball striking and is closer to what the real courses I play are like

So why do you think your friends that come over have a hard time with the CCE mat??

II think the ones that have a hard time are the ones that take a big divot on grass and can't make the adjustment for the CCE mat, and one of the guys blames the GC2 and the whole sim setup and doesn't think it's accurate at all cause he hits it a little fat. I just laugh at the guy and not really interested in hearing the GC2 is wrong from someone that know nothing about LM's - guess it won't matter since I don't have to play any type of golf with him for 6-12 months.

Look at a Divot Action mat. May be a little too forgiving, but a good mat with a great idea.

          I'm not sure about that.

The Martin Hall (style 1) mat is just a tighter weave then the ultimate monster mat. I have both and prefer the monster mat.

I am interested in this as well. I have the ultimate matzilla mat from allturfmats.com and while it is soft to hit on the stance is very squishy and you feel like you sink into the mat with swings unlike on a real fairway. I am looking to get something else that is firmer underfoot but still forgiving. Wondering if the regular matzilla without the foam is a good option. I am also looking for a option to have a large enough area covered to putt on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This also leads me to another thing I've wondered about. Is the ultimate matzilla mat and the monster mat the same product? It appears that way to me and their might be a 3rd one as well that is marketed with a different name.

My monster mat is just a tad too squishy and a tad too harsh on fat shots. It seems to me that when you "take a divot" with this mat that the clubhead speed is reduced too much - almost like the mat is grabbing the club.

Like I stated in my original post I'm just looking for the best all around mat. The divot action insert is interesting but I read that they don't last long at all... I'm not really interested in replacing something frequently. Maybe the CCE is what I'm looking for...it penalizes fat hits but MainSt described it as being "tighter".

As I search the internet for other options, I've come across Tall Boy mats and Dura-Pro. They both look promising but I don't know enough about them and it's so hard to purchase something sight unseen.

Perhaps I'm more confused than before

Looking at the CCe mat on amazon it appears to have a similar dense foam underlay and thick turf like the ultimate matzilla/? monster mat, does that mean the CCE mat is still as squishy? I hate not having a costco where we live to check this out in person and stand on it! The mats are the last piece of my sim build puzzle and seems to be the hardest to solve.

CCE mat is somewhat "squishy" but i would listen to those who have tested both. I've found the CCE to grab the clubhead as well on fat shots.

The Fiberbuilt is tough to putt on but doesn't give the user any shoulder wrist or elbow injury.

Club head speed is not reduced on the Fiberbuilt Grass hitting strip and they did a study on their website here http://www.fiberbuilt.com/golf/fiberbuilt-r-d/

Had mine for a few months and really loving it. They use them at GolfTecs and told me this surface is better to practice from as the brush surface acts like fairway as compared to regular old turf
