  • Help with hitting mat placement

Hello, I'm almost finished with my sim build. Carpeting will be installed today on the side walls and ceiling close to the screen and putting green to be installed this weekend. I plan to cut the hitting mat into the putting green and Need to figure out the placement first.

i think this is the best placement (in photo) as it lets me hit close to the middle of the screen, gives me max space for tall hitters with driver and almost lines up with the projector. I figure I can cut the green to make it look less off center. Not really worried about lefties... would have to compromise too much to get that option.

Is is there anything I am not thinking about before I cut the green? I want to make sure it's in the right spot and I have no regrets after it's finished. Thanks so much for any help. Could not have built this sim without the knowledge on this forum.

In case you can't tell in the photo... the hitting mat is angled toward the middle.

I had my original setup similar to this, which I later regretted. I then figured out a way to center my hitting path with the center of the screen. I actually ended up having hvac ducts relocated and also had to patch the carpet around my hitting mat once I was done. Hitting directly into the center of the screen has made my sim much more realistic. Do you have the room to move your hitting mat to the left (facing the screen)?

wouldnt you be hitting non parallel to the projected image / target path? I would prefer to hit parallel and offset my image in the sim to the right.

Hey BJ, Doc, Thanks for the help. I've got the mat positioned to the right side of the screen to give more room for swinging drivers. The wall angles and could become a problem if it's moved to the left. I'm worried about taller guest. I can hit no problem with it moved to the left, but I'm only 5'8 and could move it a little to the left. With the hitting area angled a little, i hit in the middle of the screen.

The projector is also on the right side and angled toward the left. Not sure if that would help with ball flight on the screen.

No room for me to move the image to the right. I could move the target line from the center to the right of the image.

I would think that hitting anything but perpendicular to the screen would cause you to subconsciously do all kinds of weird swing compensations. I don't think I could make it work mentally. I'd be wanting to hit a fade or slice every time with the angled setup you are proposing, because I'd want to try to make the ball curve back to center in my head.

Thanks everyone... I will make it perpendicular to the screen. I can have the center-line shifted right a little thru the FSX software. I appreciate all the help.
