  • UK Hitting Mat + Stance Mat Suggestions

    Hi All,

For the UK based out there, what mat are you using/recommend?

Real Feel Country Club Elite seems a popular choice - was thinking about a hitting strip of this, with a stance mat, anyone went for this? What size of hitting strip is recommended?

It will be going directly onto OSB flooring, so I imagine I can secure the mat pretty easily if required.

    Thanks all - great community.

FYI, this turf is thick and will take regular tee's. It's installed at wentworth, Sunningdale and St Andrews, amongst others. Give them a call and they will send you a sample (for free).

I bought the combo mat from amtechrange
Complete single handed combi mat system for the golf driving range, practice area, teaching studio or home simulator. An incredibly durable mat system that will withstand the heavy footfall of a busy driving range. The jigsaw base system makes for more economical shipping and easier installation.

Really happy with the service and the quality however I did return the base and ball tray. The only reason for this was the base raises the height of the mat by about 4cm. As I am using this in my garage it lifted me a little bit closer to the ceiling and meant I could not safely swing a hybrid without catching the roof. Without the base I can. I have put the mat directly on the floor, fitted a small frame using aluminium angle and then fitted Astro turf around it. Really happy with the result, and really happy with the hitting surface

Are the corners aluminium and the frame wooden around your mat?

No the aluminium is a 90 degree section, so I have 4 pieces running the length of each side, will get some pics up

I got the real feel strip form ebay, direct from country elite, I think it's just under 1.5 m length, 30 cm width. I made a stance Mat out of putting green turf and glued it to some cloud 9 underlay that was glued to chip board, does the trick. But basically the stance mat can be anything really, I'd go for 1.5 m length and 60 cm width hitting strip if budget allows if going this route. There are many threads on mat ideas and links for uk peeps, search them for better advice.

Huxley will let you order whatever size you want, and you can haggle a little to get a few pounds off. I know Faldo and Paul Lawrie have Huxley turf at their homes too. Like I said above, contact them and ask for a sample of the PTT2 (Premier Tee Turf 2), its free and you get in in just a couple of days to see if you like it or not.

Ha ha... the guy I got mine from said Paul Lawrie had one of his mats in his home too. Paul lives near me, so I didn't see any reason to doubt him.
Maybe he's got 20 different mats!!

HA ha. Well i've just asked Paul and he doesn't have any mats at home, we've all been duped by sales.

Hi - Which hitting strip did you get from Amtech and how does it compare to hitting it off the stance mat? I got the stance mat thinking I'd find a decent strip somewhere but have been hitting off the stance mat while I search for the last two months as I continue my sim build

I was thinking about getting a regular non slip rubber map to go underneath as the stance mat moves on my concrete floor. The golf mats are so pricey when for half the price you can get horse stable floor matting and I understand it's exactly the same stuff

The hitting section is pretty good, slightly longer pile and softer than the stance mat. I like hitting off it. I also hit off the stance Matt when chipping. I found my mat moved around a bit hence the frame I mentioned previous. Once the grass is down around it you cannot see the frame. Mat doesn't budge now. Will try to post one pics

    Thanks all

quick update, contacted Huxley who said the minimum order for the ptt2 is 6 feet by 5 feet. They are sending out a sample though.

Around £350 for the 6x5 mat.

Is is it just me or are we in the uk a little limited with choice?

I didn't pay that (think it was <£260 for 6x5 or even 6x6 and i'm sure that you could go smaller. Maybe they've changed tact since last year on what they offer as it might not be worth their while.

    Hi All,

Received a small sample of the PTT2 - very impressed by it. Managed to track down the local rep and agreed a good deal with them for a stance mat and a hitting strip of PTT2.

    Thanks!

Has anyone in U.K. used any Verde Sports Limited turf?

Was looking at the Verde Tee Turf http://www.artificialgrass.org.uk/shop/verde-tee-turf/ which requires, sand and rubber infill, which isn't a problem since it will be used in my garage, but I'm afraid for any sand or rubber skewing my Skytrak readings.

There is also the Super Verde Tee Turf (Non infill) http://www.artificialgrass.org.uk/sh...rf-non-infill/ which I could install over a rubber underlay.

Would be looking at doing a 2m x 2m area in the centre of my garage and then surrounding it with carpet/tiles.

Just curious to see if anyone has used this or has any opinions on them.

Do you have it straight to the floor or with a rubber shock base?

How does it feel with shorter irons when "taking a divot"?

I would assume there's still VAT to be added.

Thats what I asked to the sale manager and he told me I will not see any difference with the CCE, they are made in the same "way". Of course he is a sale manager for his product and I never tested a CCE to compare ...

The mat is directly on the floor. Its really heavy but I think it still move a little after somes fat shots ^^ Will think about block it with somethink

The feel with short iron is really good but as I can read about CCE, as soon as you take a little much divot (=fat shot), it "stop" the club and punish the shot & distance.
