  • Let me share my divot action mat experience

All, I just want to share with you that I was hitting off of the "tee up pro" mat for several months( PartoPro brand) I was hitting from this mat ok, however, other less experienced golfers struggled because any fat shot would kill the ball speed. I then purchased a divot action mat. While I did like the give in this mat, I struggled to hit constistant shots and my scores went up. While practicing last night, I experimented with different hitting configuration and found that if I placed some 1/2 inch think carpet pad in the "space" below the divot action, my shot accuracy increased dramatically. Now, the hitting mat gives some, but not like it did. What I learned last night is that the "give" of the hitting surface is crucial to good shots, at least for my swing.

This is a really good idea. I'm going to measure the height from floor to bottom of my DA and see what it is. There is some memory foam-like carpet pad I have used on other things that might fit the bill and not cause any bounce whatsoever. Or, maybe a gel insert like guys have been using on the DIY gel insert thread,

I agree that not having anything under the DA allows for some sloppy hitting. Mainly because the club will go deep, the DA flexes...but does not slow the club down. You may lose a little velocity on the ball when it strikes higher on the club face, but not much. You also don't get that feedback on ball-first contact. You can tell when you have hit one solid, but it is not as noticeable as when you hit on other mats. I have never hit off a TrueStrike gel mat, but that looks to be the ideal solution. Cost is pretty steep, though. Fiberbuilt looks to have something similar out now.

What would be really good is to some how be able to integrate the Fairway Pro type device into a hitting mat. No impact pain and yet turf slides when club hits it. You hit behind the ball and you are punished with a fat show. You hit it pure and the turf slides but you feel the ball-then-turf compression and know you have struck it well. The problem is integrating something like this into a golf mat, and not having to have it sit next to the mat.

How are you liking your DivotAction mat by now? I'm juuust about to buy one but don't like the idea of having to chunk a piece of carpet pad underneath it to get it right. I'm a SkyTrak user and have no interest in moving the SkyTrak for putting once I have it dialed in and thinking DivotAction is the right mat for me over Fiberbuilt and TrueStrike. Thanks!

I bailed on the divot action a while back and splurged on a true strike. I love the true strike and it works perfectly for me. You never need to my vet your launch monitor for putting.

I had used a TrueStrike mat for a month and loved it so of course I decided to take it apart. I removed the gel mat and built it into my subfloor and put a putting mat over it. Now the whole room is covered with a padded putting mat and the gel mat under it works wonders for hitting off of. I believe they charge $200 to buy a replacement gel pad or go with something for much cheaper on Ebay that is supposedly similar.

New member here. I just bought skytrak and have skypro. I do have an old range mat that is in great shape. Just curious if I could use just the hitting portion of the TrueStrike. Don't see a need to buy the entire unit. Curious as to what others with experience can offer.
          Thanks

How thick is your current range mat? Are you putting it on top of a platform of some sort? If so, you could just buy the get and put it under the current mat, assuming it's not too thick.

How did you build your subfloor?

My pad is about 1" thick, so it might work to make a period subfloor with a cut out for a gel insert from eBay. Still working on my set up, clearing space in my storage room.
